Check our our ABDC Season 7 banner - thanks Shahin!

Reader Shahin is back with a new banner for our website. As ever, you can track the progress of the crews on the show. If their logo is grayed out, they have been eliminated. This season, he's featured the logos that MTV designed for each group. Great work as usual Shahin!

Exclusive interview: Mos Wanted Crew talks before Madonna taping about pressure and crew secrets

Jet Li (Poreotics) and Chris Trondsen interviewed Mos Wanted Crew before the taping of America's Best Dance Crew's Madonna episode. They talk about the pressure on the crew because of the judges' praise last week, members' Facebook presence, and little known facts about the members.

Yoo's Non-Spoiler report from the ABDC Madonna taping

Yoo was in the audience for the taping of America's Best Dance Crew's Madonna taping. Here's his report on the evening which contains NO SPOILERS:
So we got Madonna week! Songs that are used are a lot of her songs back in her career.
 - There is a Special Announcement that Mario made or let me say "GAME-CHANGER".
- Because there are 9 crews, only 1 judge will speak for each crew.
 - Chachi (IaMmE, SoReal Home Team),Law and Jet li (Poreotics),Cornell (SK, kombative), members from Blueprint, Baby Boogaloo (Miniotics, Future Funk) , Chestersee (YTF), Myron Martin (World of Dance) were all in the house tonight
Click here to read the rest of Yoo's report, including descriptions of the crews, as well as some judges' comments (not attributed to the performance in question). Thanks Yoo!

Video: Mike Song - "Distorted Love"

A break from ABDC Season 7: here's Mike Song choreographing and dancing (along with Lawrence Kao and Mikey Andaya). The video shows two versions -- an uncut one focused on dancing, and an slicker edited version. Both wonderful. Frommikeosong Youtube. Thanks for the link, Greg!

LMFAO performed "Sorry for Party Rocking" on the April 19 American Idol. Both Quest Crew and Beat Freaks joined them onstage toward the end of the song.

Recaps R Us: ABDC Flo Rida Edition

- Daily Princetonian has a detailed and thoughtful analysis of the crews (Mos Wanted #1 for the week)  and the battle, along with dance clips so you can follow along.
- Dancing with Stephanie snarks about kid crews and the fact the crews use funny spelling (FYI -- there's a whole post on Television without Pity about that too!)
- Ology gives Mos Wanted Crew an A and wants to know if Mario Lopez is Benjamin Button.
- Huffington Post really likes Funkdation, though I can't tell if it's mostly because they're the first Mexican crew.
-AV Club thinks the crews are better matched this season and wants regular elimination battles.

Ninjaboi's Review - ABDC's Flo Rida Challenge

Greetings all! So ABDC Season 7 is really in full gear now with all 10 crews having gone, and already a (very sad) elimination taking place. I really think the talent this season is top class level, without a single crew being truly out of place. However, we've gotta have some way of breaking down who did better or worse, so there comes in the numbers. Please note that my rankings are my personal thoughts on the matter and not official BABDC rankings or anything like that. Just my reasoning on why I think these crews are ranked where they are.

Please read my review by clicking below, then come back and comment on what you think. Feel free to agree, disagree, whatever, so long as we all keep it civil and level headed.

Click here to see my rankings for the crews this week, a breakdown of that most excellent battle, and power rankings for all 9 remaining crews!

Byenyn's Review of ABDC's Flo Rida Challenge

It’s ABDC, Season Seven, Episode 2! Last week, five of the ten crews performed to Britney Spears and Mix’d Elements was placed in the Bottom Two by the judges, where they will fight for their lives (THEIR LIVES!) against one of the five crews performing tonight. This week’s superstar is Flo Rida, who never ever met a club that could handle him. Everywhere he goes is a club! Flo Rida’s house is a club! His bathroom is a club!

Anyways, Flo Rida shows up to perform his song, “Wild Ones.” With the exception of RNG, who performed their bit before Flo hits the stage, it’s hard to get a good sense of the different crew’s styles (hey, producers, did you forget this show is a DANCE competition?) because the camera frequently pans to Flo Rida (and his bling’d out microphone) and the audience making random animal gestures. At some point, everyone’s wearing sunglasses indoors so you know this club is super cool. It’s a nice gesture that Mr. Flo Rida is willing to perform on the ABDC stage once again, but I wish it didn’t have to be all about him, once again. To add to that effect, he’s also showing up as a special judge.

Announcing new contest - ABDC Season 7 Elimination Challenge - enter now!

We will run two contests during America's Best Dance Crew Season 7 which will extend from now through the finale. Contest #2: The Elimination Challenge: Which crews will be in the bottom 2 each week? Who will be eliminated? Enter each week and the person with the highest cumulative score for Season 7 will win an ABDC crew shirt of their choice and size (up to $35 retail).

To enter: Each week, we'll publish a new post for this contest. When the weekly post is up, leave a comment with the name of the bottom 2, specifying which one is eliminated. For example, in Season 6, a winning entry for the Rihanna Week Challenge would have read: "BOTTOM 2 WEEK 5 -  Phunk Phenomenon, 787 Crew. Eliminated: 787 Crew."  You will be awarded 1 point for each crew you name in the bottom 2 that week, and an extra point for identifying the eliminated crew, for a total of 3 possible points per week.

This week's entries will be accepted from now until noon (East Coast time) on Saturday April 21, so that nobody can use insider info from the tapings. **IMPORTANT**:

  • Create a user name you will use every week for the entire contest, and make it memorable (not just a common first name or word). NO EMAIL ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED
  • MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE THE WORDS 'BOTTOM 2' in the comment (so I can search for them easily).
Only 1 entry per person per week, please.  Good luck!

MTV Remote Control interview: Mix'd Elements talk after the elimination

Layla Kayleigh interviewed Mix'd Elements just after they were eliminated from America's Best Dance Crew Season 7. They express their understandable disappointment, saying that they have no regrets about their performance and they have much more to show America.

Second round of our ABDC Season 7 Top 4 contest now open

Thanks to all of you who submitted entries on which ABDC crews will be in the top 4 at the end of this season, in the order of their elimination. If you want to change your vote, here's your weekly chance. Note: there's no penalty for entering each week. If you get it right early, that's the vote that counts! The prize goes to the first person to submit the correct answer, based on which week they submit it. If more than one person gets it right that week, we'll employ a tie-breaker rule.  Click here for contest rules and prizes. ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED UNTIL NOON (East Coast Time) on SATURDAY APRIL 21.

This will be the first week where you've seen all the crews perform on ABDC, so there will probably be some changes in which crews are favored to win. Of the 110 entries so far, only 23% are eliminated. VOTING IS NOW CLOSED FOR THIS WEEK.

Dance's Review of ABDC's Flo Rida Challenge

BABDC reader Dance reviews America's Best Dance Crew's Flo Rida week:

ABDC is back everyone! This week's episode was way better than last week's episode. I feel like the season has really begun. All of the performances were great from beginning to end. Every crew came with something special and the ending battle was crazy dope! Both Funkdation and Mix'd Elements did their thing and it was a great battle to watch. I wish Mix'd Elements could have stayed after that battle. I do wish Mix'd Elements luck in all of their future endeavors and we'll see great things from them in the future. This is going to be a great season and I can't wait until next week's episode!
Click here to read the rest of her review. Thanks, Dance!

Send some love to Mix'd Elements

In any other season Mix'd Elements probably would have made it much further into the competition. Their range of styles is unmatched by any crew that has appears on America's Best Dance Crew. Their skillful moves and humor were evident, and they wielded a prop (their suspenders) for visual interest and variety as well as the best of the 'novelty' crews of the past. I am very sorry I won't get to see more of their moves and watch them develop over the ABDC season.

This post is only for kind words about Mix'd Elements. If you've got complaints about them or other aspects of ABDC, please take it to the Critics Corner. Any negative comments on this post (about Mix'd Elements or any other crew) will be deleted.

Video:Jason Croom (Swagger Crew) | Drake | The Real Her

Jason Croom of Atlanta's Swagger Crew (ABDC5) has released his latest concept video to Drake's "The Real Her." This shows off another side of the choreography Swagger Crew could have brought to ABDC that they didn't get to show, so it's really great that these dancers keep on putting out these videos. Keep up the good work, Croom!

Video: Koopa - "Levels"

While this season of ABDC is filled with some of the most amazing talent the dance world has to offer, there's still many other talented dancers doing their thing away from the ABDC stage. Here at BBDC, we're lucky enough to have one of them right here in our own backyard. Here is our very own mod/contributor Koopa's choreography to Levels by Avicii(Skrillex Remix). Raw Elementz ABDC 8?

Stepboys "SBractice Ep. 1"

If nothing else Stepboys are really putting themselves out there to get closer to their fans. In this video it shows what they did in their downtime between rehearsals and them hanging out with the other crews. Highlights include the Easter Egg hunt done for the younger members of 8 Flavahz and the sexy singing voices of Mix'd Elements.

Byenyn's Recap of ABDC's Season 7 Britney Week

It’s 2012, and ABDC is back for a seventh season! My name is Byeynyn and I’m going to be another recapper of this season’s episodes, yapping about the dances, the crews, the judges, and pretty much anything else I find interesting.

It feels like a lot has happened in the dance world since IaMmE took the title last season. Hip Hop International (HHI) had their gold medals nearly swept by New Zealand, helmed by ReQuest Crew, whom a few people remember as “Hey, didn’t they get 7th?” Dance Hero Japan went through two seasons of their own dance competition, which also had some amazing performances.  And a dance to a dubstep version of “Pumped Up Kicks” was one of the most popular things on YouTube. What a year.

So what’s going to happen this season? The ten crews will perform in halves, and the unsaved crew from each half will be in the Bottom Two, at risk for elimination. This episode, in honor of the “Return of the Superstars” theme, is all about Britney Spears, whose music is now filthier and more synthesized than ever.

Click here to read the rest of Byenyn's recap. Thanks Byenyn!

Video: Help StepBoys pick their next ABDC moves - Mailman or Centaur?

Step Boys, who just performed this last Wednesday, seems to be doing an ABDC first, in allowing their fans to help them shape their routines next week. They're offering two moves they are thinking about incorporating into their routines, and letting viewers pick which ones they want to see. So which one do you want to see?

Ninjaboi's Week 1 Review

Greetings BBDC! Season 7 has been kicked off, and as ever, I’m here again to cover the show.  Again, if you missed my pre-season analysis last week, I’m Ninjaboi, one of the contributors/moderators of the site. I may not be a professional dancer (even if I do dance), but I like numbers, so over the past three seasons or so, I’ve come up with a more quantitative judging system than what our lovely judges give us on screen. Please note that this review is my PERESONAL opinion of the episode, with some informal polling of dancer friends to supplement it. This is NOT the official BBDC opinion of each crew, merely a single drop of an opinion in the sea that is the Internet.

More recaps and ABDC7 mentions -- even Perez Hilton is watching!

- Perez Hilton calls Irratik's performance in the Britney Spears challenge "Ferosh", adding "These girls can effing MOVE, right?! A routine that would make Brit Brit proud, hands down!"
- Daily Princetonian analyzes and summarizes each performance using the performance clips to explain her judgement and opinions. She didn't get to watch the show live, so she uses BloggingABDC's play-by-play comments to set the order. Any time, Christine!
- Screen Invasion (which used to be called Too Interesting for Twitter) mostly summarizes the action, and didn't think that Mix'd Elements deserved to be put in danger of elimination
- Spoil the Ending doesn't want Fanny Pak to cry again, and thought Stepboys were more memorable than the other competitors

Video: Week 2 of D-trix's Dance Showdown

In Week 2, the final six YouTube stars (out of 12) meet their professional dance choreographer and learn and rehearse their dance routines for an upcoming dance battle. Contestants include: Adam Montoya (SeaNanners), Matt Woodworth (WoodysGamerTag), Lana McKissack, Elle Walker (WhatsUpElle), Jarmaine (JLovesMac1), and Marina Orlova (HotForWords). Exclusive interview with RNG before ABDC's Flo Rida Week taping: "We can go hard like the adults!"

Chris Trondsen and IaMmE's Phillip 'Pacman' Chbeeb interviewed RNG (Rated Next Generation) before their performance on America's Best Dance Crew Season 7's Flo Rida Week. The crew members introduce themselves and talk about being the youngest crew this season, how they are competing against some of their teachers, how their clean precision will appeal to fans, and how Bailey feels being on a crew with so many girls.

Brian Puspos | Can U Handle It & ABDC Announcement with Mos Wanted Crew

Apparently being in the ABDC hotels with slow wifi ("over 100 minutes to upload"), doesn't stop Brian Puspos from putting out a piece from the Movement Lifestyle Tour, specifically the piece he taught in his hometown, Houston. There's a bit of an announcement at the end of the video from the hotel, where he and the rest of Mos Wanted confirm that they will be on the April 18th episode.

ABDC7 Britney Week Recaps - Round 1

- Huffington Post has a short recap mostly focused on the sadness in D-Trix's pants
- Ology doesn't sound thrilled about anyone (highest grade is a B+) but thinks Lil Mama could have been a lot worse
- AV Club goes into the psychology/sociology as"  the only show left on MTV that really has anything to say about how pop music is interpreted by its target demo". And they liked the group dance a lot.

Leave a comment if you know of other recappers for the show.

Pre-taping videos for next week's crews from PacRim

Del, TBone, Ninjaboi and Nancy will be co-hosts of this live play-by-play of America's Best Dance Crew Season 7's opener -- the Britney Spears Challenge. Feel free to follow along (particularly if you cannot watch it until later). Please be aware that your comments might not be posted immediately (or at all) as we have to moderate them, watch the show, and type at the same time.If you want to leave longer comments and be sure they're used, go to the Party Room (the post above this one).

Site Policy Review

Hi guys, Ninjaboi here.

So ABDC 7 is finally upon us tonight, and hopefully we're in for a good one. However, since all the crews this season are so talented, and everyone has their own personal opinions as to who should have gone home, who shouldn't have and so on. Before you comment, the other moderators and I STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you read the commenting policy linked at the top of the page in yellow. It's not that long, and for the most part uses what we think is common sense. However, they're important for facilitating productive, open conversation and discussion about this show. If an abuse of the commenting system occurs, we're going to have a three strikes policy, with warnings being given for bad behavior before pulling out the banhammer (which believe us, we'd rather not do).

So for a quick recap real quickly
-Spamming: There's no point in beating a dead horse. If you've made your point once, then there's no need to paste it everywhere. Doing so only makes people less likely to believe you. Unless you have new information to bring to the table, think twice before posting it. And keep it relevant. If you want to discuss something new, put a new comment, don't hop on a thread about a certain topic unless it's related. And putting the same post under a different name counts (see next point)
-Aliases: The way our comment system works, people can change the name they comment under, or have no name at all. While we do allow you freedom in naming yourself (within reason...), if you're going to change your name, it should be clear that it's pretty much the same person. Trying to manage multiple personalities isn't accepted, since A) the moderators can see if you're using the same IP address and we will call you out for it, and B) trying to carry a conversation with yourself is borderline spamming. Keep the names clean, and keep them consistent
-Ad Hominem Attacks - We want you to share your opinions, even if they differ from our own. What we don't want to have you share are hurtful opinions of either crews on the show (it's happened...) or moderators/other commenters on the site. We will ban people for hurling names and insults at each other. Respect others if you want respect.
-Common Courtesy - Sort of related to above, but again, keep things clean, keep them fair, and if possible, keep it constructive. Crews do read this site, so if you want something to improve, give it in a constructive, rather than a destructive manner.
-Spoilers - This relates mostly to postings on the nights/mornings just after they have tapings, but please please please keep spoilers (eliminations, bottom 2s, etc) off this site. If anything (even fake spoilers) are traced back to us, we could lose our backstage access. And posting emails/twitters asking for spoilers is likely to garner you spam of some sort from the more trollish of commenters. You have been warned.
-Keep it Readable - Not necessarily a RULE per se, but more of a STRONG RECOMMENDATION. Well written, concise grammatically correct, properly spelled comments are must more likely to be read/believed than long, drawn out, barely understandable text. For the sake of having people understand you, run it through spellcheck at least before you post it.

These rules also apply to moderators, so feel free to email Nancy at bloggingbestdancecrew@gmail.com if you think one of us have violated these policies. A full policy list can be found here

Let's try to keep things classy this season (not that we haven't in the past). Here's to an awesome ABDC season, and to the BBDC with the great community that I know can happen.

Peace, Love, Dance

BABDC reader Freeze attended World of Dance LA this last week and has given us a write-up! Thanks Freeze!

Whats up BloggingBestDanceCrew! Its Freeze here back with another recap of World of Dance which took a stop at the Los Angeles Convention center this time around. Lemme say this, hands down the BIGGEST(Over 15,000 people showed up),BEST,and most expensive (MWC gear made me broke haha) World of Dance I’ve been too and I’ve been to every one in SoCal since 2010! 12 hours of being surrounded by nothing by good friends, sick merchandise, and amazing dancing was well worth the exhaustion.

Click here for the rest of his write-up, as well as pictures of the event!

Ninjaboi's Pre-Season Analysis

Greetings ya’ll. It’s a new season of ABDC, and you know what that means. Blogging Best Dance Crew is in all systems go, and that means that Ninjaboi’s reviews are making a return. For those of you who don’t know me/what my reviews are, or you just want something to read while waiting for leaks from the first episode, keep on reading.

In case you couldn’t tell, I’m Ninjaboi, one of the moderators/admins here on BBDC. College student by day, I’m also a dancer. I won’t make any promises as to my skill level, but I have exposure to popping, breaking, locking, house, newstyle and krump, as well as traditional Filipino folk dance. I got my start dancing because I was encouraged by the community here on BBDC, so one of the ways I give back to the community is my reviews to encourage smart discussion of dance.

Whereas a lot of the reviews we see from the judges on ABDC are limited to only a couple of aspects of the routines, I try to give a more holistic, relatively objective review of each routine according to a rubric. It’s not perfect, but I still think it gives a good approximation on how each crew does each week. If you know of Bboy Dyzee’s OUR judging system, this is similar to that, in that each crew is judged in one of five different categories. To try and compensate for any biases I have for or against a certain crew, I add or subtract points to even out my biases.
UPDATE FROM NANCYT: There has been a lot of heated comment about of this post and about opinions of one commenter. I've modified the comments to reflect the original post of the person who disagreed, but deleted most of the subsequent debate, which was disrespectful and distracting from many sides.  From now on, please just focus on the dance here!!

Early pre-interviews from PacRim: Mix'd Elements, Irratik, Fanny Pak, StepBoys

As always, Pacific Rim is the first to post interviews at the ABDC tapings (we'll have our own crew interviews posted soon, conducted by Chris Trondsen and IaMme's Pacman). ABDC Season 7 Taping TODAY!

America's Best Dance Crew Season 7 (aka the Return of the Superstars Season) Episodes 1 and 2 will be taped today. Each of the tapings will introduce 5 crews and have one elimination decided by the judges. At the end of today, only 8 (or maybe 9) crews will remain in contention, though the viewing audience won't know the results until they watch the shows on April 11 and 18.
If you attend the tapings, leave a comment and let us know what it was like -- who dances to what songs, the crowd, the crews, the costumes, celebrities, odd non-spoiler moments, etc. . EXTREMELY IMPORTANT -- NO SPOILERS. DO NOT TELL THE RESULTS FROM THE SHOW, INCLUDING WHICH CREWS WERE IN THE BOTTOM OR ELIMINATED! IF YOU IGNORE THIS RULE, MTV COULD PULL OUR ACCESS TO BACKSTAGE INTERVIEWING!!

World of Dance LA: TONIGHT!

ABDC Season 7 premiere taping may be tonight, but it's not the only major dance event taking place in California, or even LA, this evening. World of Dance LA is tonight at the LA Convention Center, with doors opening at 1pm, competition at 2pm, and lasting until 11:30pm.

-Daniel "Cloud" Campus
-Movement Lifestyle
As well as a long list of competitors/showcases, including favorites Academy of Villains, CADC, GRV, Team Millenia, Academy of Swag, Urban FX, Miniotics, and Emanon. Also, apparently Lil Mama will be heading to WOD sometime during the evening to do a musical performance as well.

If you're not at ABDC auditions, and you're in LA, you better be here. Let us know your impressions of the night here!

Video: Emilio (IaMmE) - "Closure"

Emilio Dosal (from America's Best Dance Crew Season 6 winners IaMmE) created an autobiographical dance video. From his description: "This was actually one of the hardest decisions I had to make, and the whole concept is just showing that my whole right side of my body would represent Love, and the left side represents Life. Throughout the piece, you see my constant struggle with myself and the decision I must make, and in the end, I had to make my choice..." From IaMEmiliodosal Youtube. Thanks for the tip, Greg and Ian!

'Dance': ABDC Season 7 preview and predictions

BloggingBestDanceCrew.com reader 'Dance' will be reviewing the episodes of America's Best Dance Crew Season 7. To get us ready, she's written a preview with information about the crews, with some predictions based on what she's seen of the crews:
Everyone competing during this season of ABDC is going to have tough competition! This season is packed with crews with hard hitting soulful choreography vs. crews with acrobatic tricks and flips. Personally I feel that the hard hitting and soulful crews are going to outshine the other more traditional crews. Anyone can easily go home this season if they don't bring their best each week, so good luck to all of the crews. In order to ring in the new season, I've made a short description of each crew. Let me know what you think about each crew in the comment section. I also give my top 6 crews at the end of the list. Will a powerful all female crew overtake a dominant male powerhouse or will the two child crews run things this season? Let me know in the comments section! Good Luck to all of the crews!
