ABDC Master Mix Week 8 answer: Southern Movement dancing to 'Ugly'

The answer this week will surprise many contest entrants. The clip was from America's Best Dance Crew Season 4, where Southern Movement danced to 'Ugly' by Bubba Sparks. DirtfaceX and I knew that this week was going to be catch some people unawares, since the first 4 seconds of the 5-second clip incorporate 'Get Ur Freak On', a song used to amazing effect by Fanny Pak. Several people told us that they were about to submit the wrong answer until they went back and watched the Fanny Pak performance and realized that the judges' comments on that ABDC show did not match the one in our video. There are still 58 people with perfect scores, and almost as many who are just down by 1-2 points.

Here's the clue again, followed by the full routine. This contest and its videos were conceived and created by Dirtface X -- Thanks!! And, come back tomorrow for the next installment of our contest. Even if you don't have a perfect score now, there is still a real opportunity to sneak back in and win!

DirtfaceX's field stage-side and pool-side report (with video) on Super Cr3w in Atlantic City

Reader DirtfaceX travelled to Atlantic City to catch Super Cr3w's performance. Here's his report:
"I take the 3 hour road trip, drop my mom and tita off at the casino (Borgata), and arrive at Harrah's nightclub at around 11pm.  For anyone who hasn't been there, Harrah's hotel pool area actually gets transformed into a nightclub during after hours.  So if you bring your swimming trunks/bathing suit with you to the club, you can actually go for a swim!  But more on that later...

I arrive there, and the place isn't really poppin' off yet.  It's still a bit early.  I grab myself a drink, and I mingle - make some new friends.  A lot of people there weren't even aware that Super Cr3w was performing, but got excited about it when they saw how excited I was.  The cr3w arrives at around midnight and I approach them.  They were really friendly and I got to say 'wussep' to all of 'em.  I mainly talked to Ronnie and gave them much respect for all that they had accomplished.  I also congratulated them for their upcoming performance at the White House.  Ben then asked, "How did you know about that?" and I threw 'em a plug for bloggingbestdancecrew (aye yay!).  We chatted for another minute or so, then I left them alone to get ready for their performance."

Here's the first part of their performance. Click here to watch the second part and to read the rest of DirtfaceX's report on the performance and his other CLOSE encounters with Super Cr3w that evening. Thanks DirtfaceX!

More on Super Cr3w performing at the White House -- We want to see Sasha Obama attend their Workshop!

Here's the official update: First lady Michelle Obama invited a variety of performers to this Administration's first event celebrating dance. The event,  will be held in the White House's East Room on Sept. 7 at 5 p.m. Dancers will be invited from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Billy from Billy Elliot the Musical, The Washington Ballet, Super Cr3w, and New York City Ballet.

Earlier in the day, the different dancers will hold workshops for dance students from around the United States. You know -- I read that Sasha Obama likes to dance hip hop. So, I'm hoping we'll see a video of her with the ABDC2 Champions!

Enter Week 8 of ABDC Master Mix Contest now!

We're at Week 8 of our 12-week ABDC Master Mix Contest, completely created by Dirtface X. In this variant on Name that Tune, our video contains a sample of an ABDC Master Mix, followed by a judge's comment about the routine. Your challenge: identify the tune AND the crew who performed it. You can use the tune name announced by Mario Lopez, instead of trying to identify the name of the exact song in the clip.. The mixes were prepared by District78.com (though only the Season 5 mixes are currently on their website). Full episodes of the programs can be found on MTV.com. Whoever can correctly identify the most routines (crew and song title) will be the winner.  Click here for all the rules. ABDC Master Mix Week 7 answer: Boxcuttuhz dancing to 'Bonafied Lovin'

The Master Mix clip was down to 5 seconds this week, but it fooled nobody. All of the 92 submitted entries got the right answer: Boxcuttuhz dancing to 'Bonafied Lovin' during America's Best Dance Crew Season 3. We also accepted 'Music Sounds Better with You' and 'Night to Fall' which were heard in the 5 second clip.  FYI -- each week, we'll accept the song name that Mario Lopez announced on America's Best Dance Crew, so you don't HAVE to seek out the name of the song actually heard in the shorter clip!  Here's the clue again, followed by the full routine. This contest and its videos were conceived and created by Dirtface X -- Thanks!! And, come back tomorrow for the next installment.

Video trailer: Ninjaboi casts his ideal but realistic ABDC Season 6 -- what do you think?

Still no concrete news about America's Best Dance Crew Season 6 from MTV or the show's producers. So in the meantime, Ninjaboi is doing his part to fill the gap by creating a scenario and trailer for how he'd do it. Unlike Brandon's equally excellent job in imagining an ABDC All-Star season, Ninjaboi selected crews that haven't yet appeared on ABDC but could realistically expect to be cast. His picks: Instant Noodles, Elektrolytes, Sweet and Sour, Marvelous Motion, Xternal Technique, Second 2 None, Phunk Phenomenon, Ridonkulous, and Point Blank. As we've come to expect from Ninaboi, he has carefully thought out the picks, provided rationales for all and even prepared slogans to describe each  (Heaven help me -- I can even hear Mario saying these!):

"So some of you may question why I picked the crews I did for the lineup...First, I’m assuming that the producers will go ahead and continue the “Regions” division as they have been doing, simply because the West Coast is still dominating, so they want to make sure that that subplot story line is still going on.  Some may not like it, but I’m going for a more realistic lineup with crews that I know.  That means that crews that have said that they will not audition again (BreakEFX, Lost Kidz) are not considered.  Also, crews must fit regulations (minimum of 5 members), and historically crews that have members from previous seasons rarely get past auditions, so I’m not considering those crews either (i.e., Beast Mode)."
Click here to read the rest -- you'll be glad you did! And, thanks Ninjaboi!

DirtfaceX at JabbaWockeeZ' MUS.I.C. - the show, meeting the guys & 'will there be a MUS.I.C. tour'?

Reader DirtfaceX left this comment about his experience attending JabbaWockeeZ' MUS.I.C show in Las Vegas, and I wanted to make sure the rest of you read it: "I just got off the plane from my "One Night in Vegas". I went yesterday to see the "last" Jabba show in Vegas... BEAUTIFUL show....the Coldplay part was beautiful...... my only criticism isn't even about the show, but I thought that that crowd was kinda weak. I was front row...it seemed that I was the only one goin' "WHOO!!!!!" every two seconds. And altho I didn't pay for $150 for the Meet n Greet session, I was able to ninja my way in there and meet the guys. They were all mad cool. I asked them if they're gonna do any more shows and they said that they'll prolly do another 'leg' in Vegas. Afterwards I spoke with a person from their staff and I told 'em "you guys should really go on tour with this like the 'Groovaloos' did". And altho he liked my suggestion  it's probably not going to happen......".
Thanks, DirtfaceX for the report!

Readers: Let's help Chaz (Saltare) win $1 million for St. Judes Hospital, Make a Wish, and himself!

Chaz Robinson from Saltare (America's Best Dance Crew Season 5) needs everyone’s help! He entered a video contest called the “Billion Points Video Contest”, sponsored by Kmart and Sears. If he win, he gets ONE MILLION DOLLARS, but here’s the catch: he must donate $500,000 of my winnings to the charities of his choice. He chose St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Make-A-Wish Foundation, two causes he's supported for years.

Here’s where we all can help: The contest winner is chosen by whoever has the most votes. If lots of the BABDC readers vote 3-5 times, there is a VERY good chance he could win! The preliminary voting ends October 5th and then the finalist voting will begin after that to name the winner.

INSTRUCTIONS:
1.Watch the video by clicking here
2. Click the “Vote” button directly to the right of the video.
3. When you click the button a blue box will appear, asking you to enter your email address then type it again to confirm it.  YOU DO NOT NEED TO SIGN UP FOR KMART REWARDS!
4. The first time you vote, it'll ask you to confirm your email address. Go to your email Inbox to confirm your email address by clicking the URL provided in the email. IF IT IS NOT IN YOUR INBOX CHECK YOUR SPAM OR JUNK MAIL! If it doesn’t show up the first time, within about 5 minutes, try again. 5. Please REPEAT with ALL of your email addresses everyday until October 5th!

And, please retweet or send this post onto your friends, family, relatives, co-workers, jump rope team members, parents, dance crews, and anyone else you think would like to help out! You can also join his Facebook page to help support the project by clicking here

Hype 5-0 (America's Best Dance Crew Season 5) are holding a contest to give away one of their newest shirts.  But the questions are tricky and suitable only for the most hard-core fans. Among them: How many piercings does Will have?, What kind of degree does Kckay have?  Before joining Hypersquad, what was the name of the bboy crew that Duey belonged to? What word makes Ramones cry?

You can see the full contest at hype5-0.com.  Thanks for the tip, Ninjaboi!

Watch the LXD Season 1 Finale here now: "I Seen a Man"

The LXD Season 1 is over already (that was fast!). His demons seem to manifest in tap-dance infused with several other dance styles. There's not much additional plot explanation, but at the end the LXD invitees all meet on the road to their mysterious new destination.

Unusual interview: Fanny Pak & Beat Freaks hang out, joke around & describe tonight's EP release party

Pacific Rim went to the home of Matt Cady (Fanny Pak) to talk  to Fanny Pak and Beat Freaks about tonight's Release party for Fanny Pak's 'Touch of Fanny'. This video shows the dancers with their guards down -- the antithesis of the stiff  and planned personas shown for most mass media performers. They are in area rug (not red carpet) mode, totally relaxed, and having fun. They talk about tonight's release party that will have a red carpet and performances by America's Best Dance Crew alums Fanny Pak, Beat Freaks, Kaba Modern, and Artistry in Motion (see poster above for details). I wish I was in LA tonight!

Video: ABDC battles SYTYCD!

AG (a reader and frequent commenter on this site) created a video with an intriguing concept -  a battle of the best hip hop dances on America's Best Dance Crew vs. So You Think You Can Dance. It's an interesting way to contrast the two shows (self-choreographed vs. professionally choreographed, pairs vs. teams, self-taught vs. professionally trained). And, it captures some of my favorite moments from both shows. From his Boogieotics Youtube Channel  -- Thanks AG!
