Trailer: Battle of the Year 3D - First Trailer
Battle of the Year 3D is a fictional film (to be released January 25, 2013) about " the Olympics of break dancing, a tournament held every year that attracts all the best teams from around the world, but the Americans haven't won in fifteen years." A hiphop mogul wants to get the US back on top and assembles a 'dream team" and gets them in shape for the big competition. The movie stars Chris Brown, Steve Terada (Quest Crew) and many of the stars of LXD. Thanks for the tip, Wolf!

We have a new contest for So You Think You Can Dance which will extend from now through
the finale. The prize for each will be a Tshirt of your size and choice,
value up to $35 or an iTunes gift certificate worth $30..
The Winners contest: Submit the names of the 2 dancers - one male and one female -- who you think will win this season's competition. The prize goes to the first person to get it right, based on the week they submit the answer. If more than one person submits the right answer in that same week, we'll employ a tiebreaker rule to be determined.
To enter: Each week, we'll publish a new post for this contest. When the weekly post is up, add a comment with the names of the 2 winners. Subsequent weeks' entries will be accepted from Thursdays (once I put up the new contest post) until the show begins airing on the East Coast (Wednesdays at 8pm ET). In our reader survey of favorite performances for America's Best Dance Crew Season 7, we asked about favorite performances for each of the 10 crews. R16 2012 Results | Congratulations Massive Monkees, Issei, Boogaloo Kin, and Benson!
This past weekend, the R16 Bboy, Popping, and Locking battles were held in Seoul, Korea. After a year of qualifications and training, 16 countries came to be represented in the world championship, but only one would take the crown. The results are below

Inspirational video of the day: C-Bass - "Fix You"
This new video from C-Bass (who also is one of the people behind the outstanding dance website Step X Step) is a must-watch. Unlike most dance videos which scream "watch my technique", C-Bass quietly incorporates the dance with the music, visual background, and video effects. MercerMZ review (with lots of videos) - Top 20 Showcase Episode
So You Think You Can Dance has now officially moved into its ninth set of Live shows, where you, the viewers at home and the one reading this recap/review, are now able to vote for you want to win! After surviving a long, physically & mentally draining Vegas week, 35 dancers of all shapes, sizes, & stories flew back into Las Vegas last week to hear from the judges who would make it onto the show. Then, tonight, they took to the stage to perform for the first time and show us exactly what we can expect to see this season. Which dancers made the final cut, and will be performing on the Live shows for your votes? How did the Showcase performances go and which dancers were grouped together? I'll give you the rundown and a few of my thoughts for each performance.

DanceHeroJP | Season 3 Episode 2
One of my favorite dance shows of all time is DanceHeroJP. And why wouldn't I like it? Aside from the language barrier (but that's only to read the names of crews written in Japanese, dance is a universal language after all), there are really high caliber crews performing for a solid 2 minutes straight to music of their choice, which pretty much no limitations on genre, artist, and without any challenges they need to do. Just straight up dancing. Plus, crews aren't eliminated throughout the 3 episode season, so that's more dancing to watch!
The second episode of season 3 just went up on Youtube, and thing are looking great. I already covered episode 1 here. Onto episode 2!
All Genre Blenders may be a younger crew like RNG or 8Flavahz, but from the way they dance, you can't tell that. The hits and glides in their popping are some of the strongest I've seen, and the bboying in there is mind boggling.
Area Rock Styler also takes the stage with popping. What's scary is that a crew of their caliber and ability is only ranking 8th this season. Crazy!
Tokyo Beat Surf (embedded below) has one of my top 2 performances of the night. They do a Mario-themed routine. Even if for a majority of the routine there are only 2 members (a Mario and a Luigi), they really took the concepts form the game and used them, while killing hte beat and the sound effects. with grooving, locking and hits. So much Mario Swag.
Twiggz Fam was my other favorite routine of the night. This Street Kingdom affiliated crew threw in some Strikers all Stars, with a stepping/krump hybrid routine. It's not all acapella though. Wait till the buck music starts, and you'll see why they are currently the top ranked crew in the competition.
City Tokyo Lights dance to a Chris Brown x Dubstep track. It's pretty decent, though there could be some tightening up, like last time.
Tokyo Footworkz - This housing crew comes with strong technique once again. The first half of their routine really showcases their athletecism, and then they just go off with the musicality in the second half.
Odorunosuki creates a fantastical world with their dance. The jazzy break is a bit unique, but they worked it well.
Trick Star brings their signature popping, in what looks like a story of aliens riding the beat in their space ship? It's entertaining, though comparatively static in positioning compared to others.
LnP continues their Broadway inspired dance with a slower, sexier tempo. Personally not my thing, though I'm sure it will be other's.
Macho Pirates Opera Company (Nozomi's translation, not mine) brings yet again another... indescribable... routine. Seriously. I haven't been unable to describe a crew like this since probably Team Black Starz. What I can gather is that there's a story about... someone's dead... and their angel dancing... Look the link is embedded above in their name, watch it for yourselves.

DS2DIO | S2DIO CITY Episode 1 - The Bridge
Normally we don't post on ballet here on BBDC. Not because we don't think it's a great dance, but because we as editors and contributors to the site aren't knowledgable enough about ballet to talk about it intelligently, so we let those who do practice that art talk their talk. However, I can say for sure that DS2DIO's latest series, S2DIO city, which started off with a ballet episode defintiely has top notch dancing.
It's an interesting concept. We all know that dance is the universal language, able to transcend local dialects and our limited vocabulary. But what if it were the ONLY language? That is something that S2DIO city tries to explore.

Hip Hop International announced Jabbawockeez (America's Best Dance Crew Season 1 Champions and stars of Las Vegas show MUS.I.C.) will be presented with HHI’s prestigious Living Legend of Hip Hop Award at the 11th annual World Hip Hop Dance Championship Finals on August 5 at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
“Jabbawockeez will become the first dance crew in Hip Hop International’s 11-year history to receive the Living Legend of Hip Hop Award,” said HHI President Howard Schwartz. “The dance crew’s unmatched mystic and captivating performance style launched the group from street credible to world famous through live performances and high profile media attention. In the process, they have inspired many of their fellow street dancers to pursue careers and reach for their dreams in dance.”

MercerMZ reviews So You Think You Can Dance - Las Vegas Week, with solo highlights
This is MercerMZ here with a full recap of the events in Vegas week for So You Think You Can Dance Season 9. In my last write-up, I said that the week in Vegas is typically a bloodbath for the dancers, and this season was no exception. A total of 181 dancers came into Vegas week with the dream of making that Top 20, and by the end of the week, only 35 dancers still had a shot. So what happened? Who was cut and when? Funkdation at Quest Learning Center
Our good friends at PacificRimVideoPress recently covered classes being taught by ABDC7's Funkdation Crew at the Quest Learning Center. We reported earlier that 787 Crew (America's Best Dance Crew Season 6) did well at their audition for America's Got Talent. Reader Xerpent sent news and videos of two other crews trying to get on AGT:
- Members of Blended Projekt (ABDC Season 5) auditioned as Elements Dance Cru. They received generally positive feedback and went to the next round.
