Video: Jun Quemado (feat. Ian Eastwood) - "Half Time"

Here's the newest upload from Jun Quemado's official Youtube Channel. The video was taken from Jun & Ian's workshop in Chicago. Check it out:

Watch "Mobbed" dance segments here with members of Fanny Pak, AIM, Blueprint Cru, SYTYCD, Femme 5

"Mobbed" is a Fox series that is co-directed and choreographed by Napoleon and Tabitha D'umo. It features very emotional plots of people trying to dramatize major life events (marriage proposals, pregnancy announcements, reveal of birth parentage) via flash mobs, as well as exposition on how to use flash mobs to make the occasion even more fraught with emotion and drama. Many of you will want to skip past the tears and staged drama (not to mention the ads) to get straight to the dancing. You're in luck, we watch it all for you!

The latest episode involved an 'accomplice' named Ion trying to make up to 'marks' (also his daughter and wife) for abandoning them with a flash mob apology. Really. The professional dancers include alums of America's Best Dance Crew: most members of Fanny Pak, plus members of Blueprint Cru, Femme 5, and Artistry in Motion. There are also alums from So You Think You Can Dance including Neil Haskell, Jason Glover and Lauren Gotlieb. So, if you want the full episode, click here. Here are the two full dance sequences.

NAOTV Episode 4: Astro Breaks the Universe

Is that Michael Jackson...bboying? Nope! It's B-boy Astro, as he stars in the latest production of JuBa Films: "Da Capo". His bboy skills mixed with the filmmaking genius of JuBa results in one of the most beautiful dance videos of the year. See for yourself:

BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE! As usual, it was another great week in dance. Check out these dope videos below (or in the playlist here).

---Other Dope Videos from This Week---
David Truong-"Slow Dance"-The David half of Houston's famous Truongs is back again, with a video of his choreo to Keri Hilson's "Slow Dance". He shows us a different side of his choreographing abilities by dancing to a slow jam. Dope stuff.

Mike Song-"Lights (Shook Remix)"-Mike Song never disappoints with his choreography, and this video is no exception. Another song with a slower tempo (guess this was a slow jam kinda week). Joining him are fellow KM6 members Yuri Tag and Cindy Minowa.

World Of Dance Chicago-Sikat-It's always impressive when a crew is really clean and really high energy at the same time. These guys definitely deserved first place at WOD Chicago. They have been drawing a lot of comparisons to GRV, which is a great honor.

Red Bull BC One-Neguin vs Roxrite-How could I not include a video from Red Bull this week? In one of the closest battles of the night, eventual champion Roxrite knocked out 2010 champion Neguin in the semifinals. Roxrite's clean, controlled style and incredible freezes really contrast with Neguin's explosiveness and aerial prowess.

The answer to Return of the ABDC Blowup Week 7: Fanny Pak (+ asking for tiebreaker ideas!)

Fanny Pak was the mystery crew in  Week 7 of our Return of the ABDC Blowup Contest. The clue: "Long before Instant Noodles hit the ABDC stage, this crew wanted to be Top Ramen." America's Best Dance Crew changed the name to Fanny Pak, mostly likely because of trademark issues with the Ramen company. (This was Google-searchable, for those readers who started watching ABDC after Season 2.)  And, the photo showed some distinctive glasses:
Here's the full photo, from the first episode of Season 2:
We had 26 entries, and most were correct. Three people are still tied for first. I'll run the final photo tomorrow. If you have ideas for a fun tie-breaker that I can run for this contest (preferably one that can be judged by readers!), please leave a comment below.

NAOTV Episode 3: "Like Mike"

Who's bad? Apparently Bboy Cloud is. In this episode of NAOTV, we're highlighting Cloud's latest film "Like Mike". His tribute to Michael Jackson has some comical results and offers a message for all dancers to hear. Check it out for yourself:

Now don't leave just yet! This was another great week in dance and there are many more videos to watch below (or you can click on this playlist here.)

---Other Dope Videos from This Week---

Rhythmic Damage VI-Beast Coast vs Mighty Zulu Kings-While Battle of the Year was getting a lot of attention last weekend, there were still other jams going on around the world, like Rhythmic Damage VI in Philadelphia. The most intense battle of the night had to be this one, which was filmed by our very own Ninjaboi. After a tiebreak, Mighty Zulu Kings takes a close victory.

BOTY 1 on 1-El Nino vs Vicious Vic-It's Drake vs Bruno Mars! (Again!) In their first meeting, El Nino beat Vicious Victor in the finals of the US Red Bull BC One qualifier to win a spot at the Red Bull BC One competition in Moscow this weekend. Here in the BOTY 1 on 1 semifinals, Victor was out for blood as he sought revenge. He successfully evened up the score in what might become one of bboying's next big rivalries.

Ian Eastwood-"Wanna Be Good"-Ian Eastwood taught this piece at the Pride Workshops this past weekend. He performs the choreo so effortlessly, making it look easy. This is probably one of the best pieces I've seen from him lately. This is also another video filmed by a member of the BBDC community, this time by reader BSG.

Kujo-"Dance to Your Own Music"-This inspirational video was very beautifully shot by StrifeTV. Kujo (Ill-Abilities) stars in this video showcasing his bboy skills. He was born completely deaf in his right ear and has lost most of the hearing in his left ear. And yet he still figures out a way to dance without being able to hear the music. He is amazing and a true inspiration to dancers everywhere.

Thanks to everyone who entered Week 6 of our ABDC Blowup Contest. ICONic from ABDC Season 1 was our mystery crew.  Here is the blowup:

Video: Maxt Out - Congratulations to Inside the Box (with help from Poreotix, KM Legacy, Choreo Cookies & More)!

At the 2011 Maxt Out, first place in the Major Choreo division was taken by Inside the Box. In that division, a choreographer is able to showcase their work (a full set/routine) with whoever they'd like, so Toy Box decided to round up Inside The Box and a lot of other dancers that he's close to with from different teams and crews, including Breed, Poreotics, Choreo Cookies, Common Ground, Kaba Modern, Team Millennia, The Ivy League, CADC, Pac Modern, Culture Shock LA, Mischief Makers, KM Legacy, Prime D and more. NAOTV Episode 2: Return of the Time Machine

Konnichiwa! You probably remember the first time you saw these guys on KoopaTV. After falling from the top spot in the last round of Dance@Hero, Time Machine definitely came back with a vengeance in the latest installment of the Japanese dance competition. Their signature robotic style definitely deserves the title of Dance Clip of the Week. Check it out for yourself:

Of course, that wasn't the only dope video from the past week. Check out the links below (or this playlist) and tell me what you think. What was your favorite video from this week?

---Other Dope Videos from This Week---

Anthony Lee-"Hold On"-So many different crews are represented in this video. Anthony Lee really captures the feel of this song beautifully in his choreography. Bonus points to anyone who can name all the ABDC alumni in this video.

Alan Truong-"Bananas"-This guy is bananas! (Sorry, couldn't resist) But seriously, Alan Truong is one of the best choreographers from Houston and he reps his city well.

Can Nguyen-"8-Bit Bounce"-What makes this piece special is the fact that Can created the music himself and then choreographed to it. I always appreciate pieces like this where all of the art comes from the choreographer.

Tony Czar n BIGZ-Back in the Studio Together Again!!!-Part of what made the Urban Empire Kidz so popular from the ABDC 6 auditions was their high energy choreography. Tony Czar's piece here shows just that as he performs it here with Lil BIGZ.

Redbull BC Onenews: watch on line - US competitors: Morris (Fallen Kingz), Roxrite (Renegades), El Nino (Floorlords)

On November 26 2011, 16 dancers from 10 nations will compete for the title of “Red Bull BC One World Champion” in Moscow.  Fans from all over the world will be able to watch the entire b-boy battle live at redbullusa.com beginning at 8am Pacific/11am Eastern.  For more about the event, visit www.redbullbcone.com.

Red Bull BC One has earned the reputation of being the most prestigious 1-on-1 b-boy battle in the world because of the highly skilled dancers who compete each year. This year’s battle is set to be a thrilling one.  Dancers hail from Korea (Hong 10 & Vero), Russia (Flying Buddha & Yan the Shrimp), Portugal (Lagaet), Japan (Taisuke), Venezuela (Lil G & Salo), Brazil (Neguin *2010 champion), Holland (Niek), France (Soso & Mounir) and Vietnam (3T). The U.S.A. will be represented by Roxrite, a member of the legendary “Renegades” crew from San Francisco; Morris from the “Fallen Kings” representing Sacramento, CA; and Boston b-boy, El Nino of the “Floorlords Crew.”

Known for his power moves, signature style and bravado, Morris is considered a favorite according to the b-boy forums. He recently won the UK B-Boy Championship solo battle; and is no stranger to Red Bull BC One, having made it to the semi-finals in 2009. Roxrite has a lifetime record of more than 60 first places, many of which were in 1-on-1 competitions. Despite injury he battled his way to third place in 2006 at Red Bull BC One in Brazil. In 2007, at the Red Bull BC One championship in South Africa, he made it all the way to the final round nabbing runner up.
El Nino secured championships at competitions in Holland and Belgium but it was his win this summer in Boston at the Red Bull BC One USA National Finals that earned him a spot on the dance floor in Moscow.

Teaching reel from Bionic (Supreme Soul, Rockforce, Machine Gone Funk)

We've seen Bionic in competitions -- solo and with his crews including ABDC2's Supreme Soul -- but I feel another side of his ability and personality with this teaching reel. The music is "Stay Strong" is a tribute to his first dance teacher, Skeeter Rabbit. From BionicSupreme Youtube.

Video: Flash Mob proposal with members of Pac Modern, Sick Step, Poreotics

From the description at artomagic Youtube: "This is the official video for my (Charles Collyer) proposal to Valerie Macalino. On November 14, 2011 I proposed to my girlfriend of 7 years. The idea came about after seeing the show "Mobbed" and they had a marriage proposal episode. That's when I knew what I wanted to do....

The pyramid at CSULB was the place where Pac Modern first started practicing and still does to this very day. We met when we were both dancing in the collegiate competition scene. I was on Sickstep and she was on Pac Modern. She was also a coord at one point while she was on the team so the location only seemed right. The "driver" (our friend Ashley) picked her up and her cousin (Stephanie) helped escort her to the pyramid at CSULB. And that's where this story ends and the video begins....."

Here's an alternate view of the action from JohnAgustin Youtube. Thanks for the tip, Jay!

If you know of a dance event that you want us to publicize, please leave a comment here

Starting today: A calendar of upcoming dance events - please contribute!

We've had numerous requests (and complaints) to restart our weekly upcoming events calendar, which had been discontinued due to the large time commitments involved to research all past ABDC crews and their activities.. So, we're starting up the calendar again that will stay at the top of this home page. New policies:
  • If you know of an event, leave a comment on this post or email us at BloggingABDC@gmail.com. I will add it IF there is info on date, location, and how to learn more. If you give a link, I'll incorporate it
  • I will only publicize events that are related to America's Best Dance crews or other hip hop dance people -- that's the point of this site.
  • Due to space limitations, event posters will not included, but I'll include info on the performers, as well as links to posters
  • The more advance notice the better, though I'll try to include even info for that day. I'll also try to post on-going events
So send me info, and the page will start up later today.

Readers: Please watch and support Instant Noodle's Stanley Project

Chris Kuo of Instant Noodles (ABDC Season 6) posted this where he describes the personal tragedy of his brother Stanley's impending death from osteosarcoma. He wants to make something good come from this tragedy by starting the Stanley Project. Please watch and follow the Stanley Project -- details will be forthcoming at InstantNoodlescrew.com.

NAOTV Episode 1: Loads of Locking

What's poppin' BBDC readers? Actually, a better question would be what's lockin' BBDC readers? The first ever installment of NAOTV is bringing you guys some of the best lockers in the world this week. This was a great week for dance videos in general, but it was especially true for locking videos. And I couldn't just pick one video either. So first, let's head on over to Chinatown in NYC to check out our first pair of lockers: Hurrikane and Firelock.

The reigning Juste Debout locking champions showed off their versatility in dance styles as well as their world class locking abilities. And as always, the Yak Films production quality is top notch. Our next pair of videos feature Hilty and Bosch at Urban Dance Camp. Definitely check these out:

These guys became two of the most popular lockers in the world after their showcase at Red Bull BC One 2005. Their UDC videos definitely show us why.

For more dope dance videos from this week, you can check out this playlist or click on the links below.

Video: Mos Wanted Crew - "Avengers" Introduction

This past weekend, World of Dance Tour held it's first ever WOD Boston! One of the most notable themes throughout the event, was Mos Wanted Crew's performance.

Aside from the amazing dancing, this show had a lot of hilarious moments. But, my favorite part had to be the ending freestyles. So dope!

Rhythm City is back -- new website, new major US show!

We hadn't heard much from Rhythm City (America's Best Dance Crew Season 4) lately. They've returned with a new website -- RhythmCityEnt.com -- to bring news, videos, photos, etc. The first news: They have a big show called The Takeover in New York on December 23. It is "an off- Broadway-style show that is theatrically staged, with complete stage props, elaborate sets and wardrobe, and energetic performances that will shake New York City." This production builds on their highly successful tour in China this summer, and promises to have all the energy and excitement that Rhythm City showed on ABDC. Tickets go on sale November 11; more info on their website

Week 5 of the contest will be posted tomorrow, and I hope you solvers find it more welcoming!  Anyone can still win if the contest continues to the end.  Click here for the contest rules.

KoopaTV | Dance Clip of the Day: "Choreo Cookies CS Showcase 2011"

Hi there! NAO here with today's episode of KoopaTV and a little announcement after the video. Today, we're headed to Los Angeles, where last month Culture Shock hosted its annual Choreographers Showcase. Among the many groups performing in exhibition was Choreo Cookies.

This performance shows us a very different side of Choreo Cookies that we're not used to seeing. See for yourself:

Now for the announcement: after today, KoopaTV is going on hiatus for the rest of the year. For the time being, I will be taking his place, posting the dopest video of the week every Friday evening around 6. You can still submit videos to his YouTube here or mine here. Since I will be posting weekly, submissions must have been posted no earlier than the Friday of the last episode. Thanks to everyone who has watched, commented, and submitted videos to KoopaTV's Dance Clip of the Day so far. He will resume posting daily next year.

Until then, KoopaTV, signing off.

TiVo Alert: Hazmat and Sasha on Ellen

Here's one for the Hypersquad fans out there. Josh Ulep (Hype 5-0, ABDC5), and Sasha (Hype Jrs) have caught attention of Ellen DeGeneres, and will be appearing on her show tomorrow, Monday November 7th. Check you local listings for times! In case you forgot why they caught her eye, here's a reminder:

Video: Mix'd Elements 2.0 at CS Showcase 2011

The defending USA Hip Hop Dance Championships Silver Medalists Mix'd Elements 2.0 performed at the 2011 Culture Shock Choreographers Showcase. For anyone who has been wanting to see their HHI performance, this appears to be an extended version of it. If that is the case, then in my opinion that silver medal was well deserved. Check it out:

Videos: I.aM.PHUNK'tion

Northeastern University's Kinematix organized a hip hop dance showcase with ABDC 6's I.aM.mE and Phunk Phenomenon as the headlining performers.

Phunk Phenomenon opened the show with their entire company dancing to their own remix of DJ Khaled's "Welcome to My Hood".

I.aM.mE's full crew is finally all back together as they performed their signature "brain bangs" in front of the Northeastern University crowd.

Thanks for the tip, PerezOverride!
