Steelo fundraiser: Upcoming dance event with JabbaWockeeZ, LXD, Beat Freaks and much more

On December 6, 2011, members of the dance community are holding a major fundraiser to help fellow dancer Richard 'Steelo' Vazquez. Among the performers: JabbaWockeeZ, Super Cr3w, Beat Freaks, The LXD, the Groovaloos, Twitch (So You Think You Can Dance), Flomaster of Footwork Fanatix, and Killafornia. Tickets go on sale November 4; full information at Steelo444.com. (Thanks for the tip, Greg).

From the website: Steelo Vazquez has been a major part of the L.A. dance community -- a member of Killafornia, Footwork Fanatix, and The Groovaloos and a lead character on The LXD. He regularly gave back to the community through dance at benefits and fundraisers and has mentored  youth at weekly Groove Nights hosted by The Groovaloos. In addition, he worked with Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna and Gwen Stefani.

On June 19, 2011, Steelo suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm and had to undergo emergency surgery. During the operation he suffered a 2nd rupture. By the end of numerous surgeries, Steelo had suffered four ruptures and lost his ability to walk and speak. Today, Steelo remains in an extensive rehabilitation program where doctors are helping him relearn basic functions.

The goal of the fundraiser is to raise enough funds that will allow Penelope to assist Steelo with his recovery, focus on raising their little boy, Elijah and help her with the increasing medical costs. Any excess of donations beyond their needs will go into a trust account to help another family in need in our dance community. So -- buy tickets!! I cannot be there but will definitely contribute.

Free Bieber Campaign: Say No To S.978!

S.978, a new bill in Congress, makes it a felony to post videos that contain copyright-infringing music, with up to FIVE YEARS in prison for violators. This affects Youtube singers, musicians, vloggers, and gaming/movie channels.

However, this new bill would especially hurt DANCERS. Dancers, who post videos of choreography to any official single from an artist, would immediately be in violation of this law. The growth of Youtube artists would be severely stunted. Please help stop this ridiculous oppression of artists and sign this petition against the bill, [Here]

*This campaign name was inspired by the clever folks at Fight for the Future, who noticed that this law would have put Justin Bieber in jail, since he launched his career by posting videos of himself singing R&B tunes, in violation of copyright.

Poreotics at UF: new revelations and their workshop video (including PerezOverride)

UFAKMonth covered Chad Mayate and Lawrence “Law” Devera (member of ABDC Season 5 Champion Poreotics) during their  visit to University of Florida as part of  Asian Kaleidoscope Month and Filipino American History Month. The story tells the dancers' background histories and some fun facts.

My favorite quote is from Chad: "For me, I hear a song and maybe I’ll do a random move to a word.  I build off that moment and freestyle...For Poreotics, 50 percent is made up by goofing around, doing stupid stuff. We end up saying ‘Wow, that was really funny!’  So we put it in, judge the reaction from the audience.  We want to show our personality. It’s one thing to dance, but to dance and entertain is what we aim for.  We want to create a performance, not just a dancing show.”

Here's video of the workshop. PerezOverride (thanks for the tip!) appears in a plaid shirt at 0:53.

Coming next summer: Step Up 4Ever 3D!

Summit Entertainment has released a new plot synopsis of Step Up 4 (aka Step Up 4 Ever): “STEP UP 4 is the next installment in the worldwide smash Step Up franchise, which sets the dancing against the vibrant backdrop of Miami. Emily, the daughter of a wealthy businessman, arrives in Miami with aspirations of becoming a professional dancer, but soon falls in love with Sean, a young man who leads a dance crew in elaborate, cutting-edge flash mobs. The crew, called the MOB, strives to win a contest for a major sponsorship opportunity, but soon Emily’s father threatens to develop the MOB’s historic neighborhood and displace thousands of people. Emily must band together with Sean and the MOB to turn their performance mobs into protest mobs, and risk losing their dreams to fight for a greater cause.” The release date of Step Up 4 is set for August 10, 2012. KoopaTV | Dance Clip of the Day: "Universal Alchemy"

Hey! Today's episode is taking us back to New York! This episode of KoopaTV focuses on one of the most amazing group of dancers that I've ever had the pleasure of knowing: Universal Alchemy.

This crew of bboys, including Bboys Chem, Fantum, Ken Fury, Omen, Frankie and Napalm, are some of the most talented dancers in the game right now. At Evolution 6, this past weekend, they just won the USA qualifiers for Hip Obsession 2012, February 11th in Nantes, France.

I look forward to hearing a lot more about this crew. Congrats!

Send your answer to abdccontest@gmail.com; we will NOT confirm whether you have the right answer. Please do not post your answer in on this site or elsewhere -- we want to keep this fair. If I find that you've posted the answer online, you are permanently disqualified from the contest and banned from all comments. KoopaTV | Dance Clip of the Day: "D-Blast - Shake That"

Konnichiwa! We're off to Japan! Today's episode of KoopaTV takes us to a little place known as Studio S.W.A.G., where Dee "D-Blast" taught this dope combo.

Now, let me just say that I can't stand the obsession with the word 'swag', but if it EVER had to be used, it would definitely be with these dances, especially the LOL K!DS. Those kids killed it!

With Lance Savali & Laurence Kaiwai at her sides, Parris performed this intense combo to Kanye & Jay-Z's "N****s In Paris". Subscribe to Parris' Youtube channel right, [Here]. This is definitely the dopest combo that I've seen to this song, yet. Shot Royal Family!

Talk Amongst Yourselves: ABDC Format

With a new season it's way (SOON!!), let's take a minute to look back at the past six seasons and see what went right and what went wrong. Whether it was the number of crews in the season. If they had auditions or not. It can even be about what regions were allowed in that particular season.

Please read the following write up and tell us how you would set up or improve the format of ABDC 7.PLEASE NOTE THIS IS IN NO WAY CONNECTED TO ABDC OR MTV THIS IS FOR FUN ONLY!!

Video: 747 "Brand New"

Brandon "747" Harrel (I.aM.mE) recently uploaded his choreography to "Brand New" by Drake. He performs the piece with fellow crew members Jaja and Millie.

Crew Spotlight: Remote Kontrol

Remember a few seasons back of SYTYCD, when Bryan "Chibi" Gaynor from Remote Kontrol blew us away with his bottin' to Fireflies? And how he and his crew Remote Kontrol performed on TV? Well, they've been busy since then.

-First, we had that viral video featured on KoopaTV a while back with crew member Nonstop dancing to dubstep. Well, he caught the attention of a famous friend of dance, Ellen DeGeneres. He was recently featured on her show. Check the clip by clicking here!
-He hasn't been the only member of the crew putting out new videos to dubstep though. Bryan Ganyor, aka Chibi, also has a clip of his own.

-When did he do this? Oh, only in between sessions with Madd Chadd (LXD). Does this mean we may see Mr. Gaynor in the upcoming movie Step Up 4?
