The Beatdown will be held in Toronto on August 12, 2013. The judges include America's Best Dance Crew and So You Think You Can Dance alums Mike Song (Kaba Modern), Lydia Paek (Boxcuttuhz), EKnock (Status Quo), Hok Konishi (Quest Crew and SYTYCD), as well as Addy Chan and Mariano. Blueprint Cru (runners up for America's Best Dance Crew Season 5) recently performed for Scion Car Company at Hit The Floor. Good to see they've retained all their originality, humor and precision!

Video: Two hiphop routines on the Top 16 (down to 14) So You Think You Can Dance

The Top 16 So You Think You Can Dance was brutal for animators and hip hop dancers as BluPrint and Mariah were sent home. The hip hop routines of the night were choreographed by Dave Scott with strong compliments for the choreographer and 3 of the dancers. 
First, Malece and Alan had a routine that supposedly involved aliens out to retrieve hiphop from some intergalactic thief (that's one way to explain costume choices):


Next, Makenzie and Paul had a retro 1930s (disguised as 1920s) hiphop routine ostensibly about a photographer trying to get a movie star to act sexy. I wish they'd stop trying to pin concepts to dances and just focus on the skills. Whatever.

Jabbawockeez manager Lee Razalan talks about group's formation and motivation

Though Jabbawockeez is well known to most BABDC readers and fans of Hip Hop Dance, this perspective by manager Lee Razalan might shed some light on why the group continues to be so successful. Lee has been a professional dancer -- he was one of the four original silhouettes for the iPod ads.  You can get tickets for their Las Vegas show PRiSM here.
