LXD is back with 3 new episodes, especially for fans of robotics, tutting, and breaking

LXD (Legion of Extraordinary Dancers) returns from their one-week break with three new episodes, all taking place in current day LXD world (wherever that is).
First up: Salvage (Episode 5 in Season 3). Sp3cimen tries to rescue his old girlfriend Autumn in an ominous warehouse. But he has to dance-fight battle with a strange creature (reminded me of an evil cloaked Ewok wearing a gas mask), followed by a Robot-a-thon battle. And, Autumn is...different. Jonathan Bayani (Supreme Soul, ABDC Season 2) is one of the robots.
Episode 6 - Reprogram -- takes up where Salvage ended. Autumn reveals her new nature, necessitating a battle of the sexes. Autumn is backed up by the Umbras, while Energies have Sp3cimen's back. Among the Energies: Kaba Modern's Mike Song and Tony Tran. This is my favorite of the three new episodes, due to the intense plot-driven choreography, masterful battle of tut vs. robot, and spotlighting of a wonderful girl dancer (Marie Medina) for a change.

RA Games: The last new episode returns us to LXD training school. This one is for the b-boy fans out there. The tension is much lower than the last two episodes, but there's some minor plot advancement -- will there be a battle to determine the LXD messiah? Stay tuned!

Legendary Hip Hop | Demons of the Mind/Medea Sirkas - 1984 Performance

After my last Legendary Hip Hop Post, Guest suggested I post up a video of this other legendary crew, Medea Sirkas. Whoever you are Guest, your wish has been granted.

Reppin the Bay Area, Medea Sirkas are pioneers of dance, helping found strutting and Filmore styles of dance.  While this video doesn't show it, they also used masks in their performances, and their particular style of dance has been very influential upon crews we know and love today, including Jabbawockeez and fellow Bay-Area dancers Supreme Soul and Academy of Villains.  They were creating illusions with their bodies long before I.aM.mE thought of Brain Banging, or were even born. Previously known as Demons of the Mind, they continue to stay relevant and perform together, such as in Justin Bieber's "Somebody to Love" music video. Check them out at their website: http://www.medeasirkas.com

Legendary Moments: Slim Boogie vs. Kite

Here's a classic, for everyone! This popping battle, between "Salah & Friends" and "Machine Gone Funk" (featuring Bionic and Pharside of Supreme Soul) marked the 10 year anniversary of Bionic & Salah's legendary battle, just before the turn of the millennium. That battle, (now 12 years ago) sparked a new generation of poppers to break into the scene.

*This particular clip, however, is widely regarded as the 'highlight' of this 10 year anniversary battle: Slim Boogie's crazy precision (Machine Gone Funk) vs. Kite's mind-blowing footwork (Salah's Friends)!

Disclaimer: Yes, Kite does indeed regularly perform to the song in his set, but that does not take away from his footwork. Don't let this devolve into a fan-war of 'who was better,' and let it remain as a piece of Hip-Hop history, that will continue to inspire us all.

ABDC6 auditions spotlight - LA Pt. 3: Marvel Inc., Mos Wanted Crew, Oceans 11 (Eclectic Gentlemen), Proteges, ReQuest

Time for more attention and information on the crews that did well at the America's Best Dance Crew Season 6 auditions and might be chosen to appear on the show.  We know names for most of the crews that did well during their auditions.  We will soon run a contest to let you 'cast' which of the crews you think should make it to ABDC6 Top 10.  To help you choose and give these crews some exposure, we'll spotlight each of them and show any recent performance videos we can find.

Today: Part 3 in our coverage of the Los Angeles auditions, featuring five more crews that made it to callbacks during the LA tryouts. Tomorrow: Part 4 of 5  on our coverage of the LA crews.
  • Marvel Inc. is a Los Angeles group with an established fan base that loves  their jerkin' style. You can follow them on Twitter and TheMarvelInc Youtube. The videos don't show much group dancing, but here's a recent one showing some group moves and the individual members' skills, starting around 2:28.

  • Mos Wanted Crew is already phenomenally popular, though almost nobody has ever seen them perform together. The members have been leaders in the Hip Hop dance community and have been part of 29 other dance groups including ABDC alumni SoReal Cru. Supreme Soul, Team Millennia, and Boxcuttuhz. Click here to hear MWC's creator Myron Marten explain how and why the group formed, their working style, and their feelings about ABDC. Follow them on Facebook and Twitter. So far, there is no video to show Mos Wanted Crew dancing together, but here's Koopa's unofficial demo reel that demonstrates the amazing individual dancers.

Click here for info and videos on Oceans 11 (aka Eclectic Gentlemen), Proteges, and ReQuest.
