LXD is back with 3 new episodes, especially for fans of robotics, tutting, and breaking

LXD (Legion of Extraordinary Dancers) returns from their one-week break with three new episodes, all taking place in current day LXD world (wherever that is).
First up: Salvage (Episode 5 in Season 3). Sp3cimen tries to rescue his old girlfriend Autumn in an ominous warehouse. But he has to dance-fight battle with a strange creature (reminded me of an evil cloaked Ewok wearing a gas mask), followed by a Robot-a-thon battle. And, Autumn is...different. Jonathan Bayani (Supreme Soul, ABDC Season 2) is one of the robots.
Episode 6 - Reprogram -- takes up where Salvage ended. Autumn reveals her new nature, necessitating a battle of the sexes. Autumn is backed up by the Umbras, while Energies have Sp3cimen's back. Among the Energies: Kaba Modern's Mike Song and Tony Tran. This is my favorite of the three new episodes, due to the intense plot-driven choreography, masterful battle of tut vs. robot, and spotlighting of a wonderful girl dancer (Marie Medina) for a change.

RA Games: The last new episode returns us to LXD training school. This one is for the b-boy fans out there. The tension is much lower than the last two episodes, but there's some minor plot advancement -- will there be a battle to determine the LXD messiah? Stay tuned!

Video: Mike Song & Devious - "17 Floors Up"

Many people celebrate Labor Day with cookouts and enjoying the last bits of summer. Mike Song (Kaba Modern Legacy) & Devious (Mighty Zulu Kingz), on the other hand, decided to post this dope freestyle for us to watch. Enjoy:

Videos from AGT Top 10 show; Team iLuminate, Miami All-stars, West Springfield, Silhouettes

Four of the top 10 acts in this season's America's Got Talent are dance groups. They performed on the September 6, 2011 show to mixed reception by the judges. The top 4 will be announced on September 7.
  • Miami All-stars were viewed as too cheerleader-ish by Piers Morgan, but the other judges liked the performance
  • West Springfield Dance Team probably erred by having another horror-themed routine since the judges thought it was too predictable and boring
  • All three judges loved Silhouettes
  • The judges raved about Team iLUminate and called them Vegas-ready

Hip Hop For Hope!

In ABDC6, Phunk Phenomenon used their time on the show to advocate for and spread awareness of Sanfilippo Syndrome through their Hip Hop for Hope campaign.  Earlier this year, they joined a contest hosted by Vivint for money to help research a cure for this genetic disorder. We posted the link on this blog, and thanks to your help, they were the Eastern Region Winners, with 176,897 votes, winning the Team Sanfilippo Foundation $100,000 for research! This was the second most amount of votes in the whole contest for one organization, and it couldn't have been done without your help or Phunk Phenomenon's advocacy!  Thank you!

KoopaTV | Dance Clip of the Day: "Bring Me Back"

Hey! This episode of KoopaTV takes out to Oakland for another Yakfilms feature! Today we visit the dancer, Chonkie, in a one-shot, full length video of his dope tutting skills.

Video: Jason Rillera (The Company) - "Celebration"

This 19 year old dancer, Jason Rillera, shows a LOT of promise, as one of the many talented young members of The Company. You may remember some of his work, when he performed "Deuces" at Vibe XVI, or his piece to "Unusual" at WoD LA 2011.

Here is his newest piece from his Youtube channel, [JasonRillera]:

Legendary Hip Hop | Battle Squad - BOTY 1992

Battle of the Year (BOTY), often called the premier international bboying competition, has a history dating back to 1990. Today's Legendary Hip Hop Post features one of the earlier competitions, in 1992.  For those of you who don't know, BOTY has two rounds: exhibition and battle.  All crews do a choreographed exhibition piece, and the top 4 battle it out for the top place.  Usually these crews consist of at least 8 people.  Ichigeki's crew (featured in a past Legendary Hip Hop post) had 9. Today's Legendary Hip Hop post is Legendary because in 1992, the champions of BOTY was a two man squad, Battle Squad, consisting of Bboy Storm and Bboy Swift Rock.  Of course, the video here is of 1992 quality, and bboying has come a long way since then, but it's still impressive to see such a feat accomplished.

And if you recognize some of the other dancers, please identify them!

KoopaTV | Dance Clip of the Day: "Anthony Lee - Without You"

Hey! We're going back to Cali! Today's episode of KoopaTV visits Anthony Lee (Kinjaz/ LXD/ CADC) recording this popping routine. I also found that the message in his description matched the uplifting vibe of this video:

"This piece represents the idea [to me that is...] that life isn't so easy all the time, and in many of those circumstances, I probably wouldn't have made it through as best as I did without the support of so many loved ones in my life. To my friends, my family and the Man upstairs. It's not meant to be depressing or lonely at all...ahahah at least to me."

So subscribe to his Youtube channel, [Anflowny], for more of his work!

Poreotics (ABDC 5) recently uploaded a video of Can freestyling to their YouTube channel. The video jokingly describe some of Can's moves as the new styles of 2011. Spotlight: Kinetic Art Crew

In the midst of an era when most bboying out there is in competetive jams and battles, it can be hard to define whether the dance is a sport or an artform. The Kinetic Art Crew definitely seems to push for the latter.
Consisting of members from Japan, they combine traditional bboy aspects with influences such as yoga, circus gymnastics, contemporary in order to show a softer, yet no less intense, side of bboying. Their poetic and breathtaking style goes to show that bboying is a multifaceted dance, and ever growing. Check them out on their tumblr, and in the following clips.

KoopaTV | Dance Clip of the Day: "100 Years in 100 Seconds"

Hello! Today's episode of KoopaTV is not only a trip to East London, but a trip back through time! Opening on September, 13th 2011, as Europe's largest "Urban Shopping Centre," Westfield Stratford City claims that they will 'transform' the retail landscape.

Whether or not their claims are true, they have recently released this campaign video, showcase the changing fashion styles over the past 100 years in East London. However, the popular theme about this video is not just the constantly changing style of clothing, but the two dancers, mimicking the popular style of dance, corresponding to their attire.

This video creates such a wonderful and seamless journey through time. Enjoy:

FunkdUpTV also has very high quality videos of Jaja's battles at LA Freestyle sessions. Even if you saw the ones we posted earlier this week, you should watch again: Jaja vs Breeze Lee in Popping, Jaja vs Tsuyoshi in locking, and Jaja vs. Flomaster in the Top4 Locking competition
