Video: Academy of Villains at Vidcon

From World of Dance, here's Academy of Villains at this year's Vidcon. Thanks ninjaboi!

PLEASE COMMENT: Which were the all-time 'best' America's Best Dance Crew crews and dancers?

It's been over a year since MTV shut down America's Best Dance Crew. During the years, dozens of crews and hundreds of dancers have been on the MTV show, performed as a group, performed solo, competed at Hip Hop International, World of Dance and elsewhere, competed on other TV shows (America's Got Talent, So You Think You Can Dance, and others) and been all over Youtube.

The most successful group (at least in terms of $$) has got to be Jabbawockeez. But let's broaden the definition of success. Which groups or dancers have had the greatest impact on the world of dance? Which are you most likely to see 10 years from now? Which (if any) changed your life at least a little?

Please leave some comments or send us an email. If it makes sense, I'll put together some surveys on the topic. Thanks!

Videos of the Gold Medal winners at Hip Hop International: Rockwell Family, Brotherhood, FLIP, Royal Family

Hip Hop International has released videos of the teams that competed in the Varsity Division at this year's finals. Here's Rockwell Family from Canada -- winner of the adult division.

Click here to watch the performances from Brotherhood (Varsity Division), Flip (Junior Division), and Royal Family (Megacrew).

Videos: This week's SYTYCD Hiphop routines plus a Must-see contemporary dance

The Top 10 show for So You Think You Can Dance featured 2 hiphop routines, though neither were the standouts for the show. That honor goes to a very emotion routine danced by Tucker Knox and SYTYCD Allstar Robert Roldon, who paired up in a moving contemporary dance about two brothers. The number was beautiful for its artistry in choreography and dance, but was personally moving in that it marked the comeback for Robert, who almost died in a car crash in 2012. Watch it here:

The hiphop this week came from a jazzy Christopher Scott routine danced by Hayley and tWitch.

And, Napoleon and Tabitha D'umo choreographed for Nico (who was eliminated at the end of the show) and All-star Comfort

Vote now! Help Ninjaboi win contest to make movie mentored by Jon Chu, Wong Fu Productions, FreddieW

From long-time BBDC reader/reviewer/friend Ninjaboi (aka Paulo:
I recently entered a contest by Wong Fu Productions, FreddieW and Jon M Chu (Director of the Step Up Movies) called "Take Your Shot." Basically, they're working with AT&T to promote the video capabilities of the Galaxy S4. Basically people submitted pitches for a short film that would be shot entirely on a Galaxy S4. I'm lucky enough to say that after 2000 submissions, mine was chosen as one of the Top 50!

This is where you guys come in. They have opened up the Top 50 to public vote. The Top 10 vote getters will be then reviewed by the judges to select a Top 3 to be flown out to LA and be mentored by the three aforementioned film gurus in making this film. Voting Ends August 18th (Sunday) at 9PM EST

Here's my short pitch:
In the Eye of the Cypher by Paulo
A struggling dancer, inspired by footage captured of an epic dance cypher on a phone, begins to document his own training journey, with the goal that one day he will be the one being recorded in the eye of the cypher. His crashes, burns, and ultimate improvement are all captured on his own phone.
I feel like I'm lucky to have gotten this far, but I would love the opportunity to go further. Here's how you can help :)
2)Look for the pitch above
How to easily find me - Click on Name and then scroll down to the P's and look for my name.
3)Vote for my entry!
4)Pass it on to your friends/contacts/groups - every little bit helps!
Fun Fact - of the Top 50, mine is the only one focused on dance!

And that's it! Thank you in advance for all your help :) It really means a lot to me if you guys could vote and pass it on. I promise to let you guys know how it goes!

Video: 'Hip Operation Crew' Teaser | World's Oldest Dance Crew Performs at HHI

As reported yesterday, New Zealand's Hip Operation Crew treated us with a special performance while awaiting the scores for the Mega Crew Division. It was then announced that 'the world's oldest crew' is set to perform on the World Championship stage.  Here's an exclusive sneak-peak:

You can check out the full performance tonight- along with World Championship Finals on the HHI LIVESTREAM at 7:00PM (Pacific Time). On the top right corner of the page is a link for the stream.

Video: HHI '13 - Sorority, RNG, & Mix'd Elements Performances

I wasn't able to get much video- they were much more strict this year about video recording, but here's what I got.  All videos are from the Preliminaries. First is Sorority (New Zealand), followed by RNG (USA), and followed by Mix'd Elements (USA).  Note that RNG didn't wear masks in the semi-finals, and I'm sorry for missing the first 3 seconds of the Mix'd Elements routine. Enjoy!
