Video: Terrific interview with Bryan East (Boogie Bots) by high school student
Here is an utterly charming MUST-SEE interview with Boogie Bot Bryan East, conducted by a student and posted on the PCSuryaaa Youtube Channel. They talk about America's Best Dance Crew, how Bryan learned to host World of Dance, workshops, and how to get East Coast dancers more noticed and work together. The interviewer gets Bryan to open up and talk more openly than most professional interviewers.

Reminder: Hip Hop International starts in 10 days -- the hiphop dance event of the year!
I publicize many stellar dance events and STRONGLY recommend that you go see live dance -- much more intense than anything on TV! But, if you only have the time and money to attend one event, I recommend that you go to Hip Hop International in Las Vegas. I attended HHI 2009 and was awed by all the talent and variety that came together to learn and to battle.
- If you can attend the whole event, you can hang out and become friends with dancers from 35+ countries and see most of them work out and compete.
- If you only have 2 days, you should attend Saturday and Sunday July 31-August 1. You can attend dance workshops by Nappy Tabs, FloMaster and Boogaloo Sam; watch 1-on-1 and 3-on-3 battles in popping, locking, and bboy; AND attend the Finals where the best of the best compete for prizes and the title. It was THE best hip hop dance event I've ever attended!

Video: The BEST Robot Crew
Watch out Madd Chadd, Poreotix and Boogie Bots! You've got some unstoppable competition. In honor of this week's The LXD, here's some major robot action. According to Gizmodo: "the dance party went down at Shanghai 2010 Expo, where 20
Nao robots, designed by the French team Aldebaran Robotics, synchronized
over Wi-Fi to strut their stuff. The robots come kitted with "x86 AMD Geocode
500 Mhz CPU, 2 GB flash memory, two speakers, vision processing capabilities,
Wi-fi connectivity and ethernet port," and respond to commands in both English
and French, like this: "STOP DANCING BETTER THAN I EVER WILL."

More Dance TV: Fighting Gravity makes it to America's Got Talent Semi-Finals
Many of our readers are now fans of Fighting Gravity, a dance team on America's Got Talent that creates cool illusions through dance, blacklight and glowstick effects. Fighting Gravity moved on to the AGT semi-finals. Unfortunately, RNG was eliminated in the LAST 2 seconds of the show (way to create tension guys!) in favor of another kid act called Future Funk. Congratulations Future Funk! Here's the quarter-final Fighting Gravity routine:

Podcast with The LXD's Madd Chadd and Shelby Rabara - listen now!
Today's episode of The LXD is 'Robot LoveStory' starring Madd Chadd as a man who wakes up in a hospital with no memory but crazy robot movements. Click here to watch.
I spoke to Madd Chadd Smith and Shelby Rabara (who portrays the Dark Nurse). Among the topics: how they got involved with the LXD, the creative process behind the show, why there are so few women on the show at this point (and how that will soon change), plans for international distribution, how the LXD differs from other mass media shows involving dance, their favorite comic book characters, and what they'd like to see happen to the LXD franchise. Listen in!

Watch Episode 3 of The LXD here now: "Robot LoveStory"
The newest episode of The LXD is released. "Robot LoveStory" introduces a new character called Sp3cimen (played by Madd Chadd) who wakes up in a hospital with no memory and severe convulsions. This episode really looks and feels like a classic comic book to me, complete with captions, lurking evil-doers, and a sympathetic good guy with a mysterious past and madd skills
Later today, I'll post my podcast interview with Madd Chadd and Shelby Rabara (the Dark Nurse), including answers to some questions by BloggingBestDanceCrew.com readers.

Announcing Week 1: ABDC Master Mix Contest!
Today we start a new competition called "The Master
Mix Contest", completely created by Dirtface X. Think you know your ABDC
dance music? Prove it. Listen to a sample of an ABDC Master Mix,
followed by a judge's comment about the routine, and identify the crew
who performed it.
The mixes are all available at District78.com,
but the clips will vary from 20 seconds in the first few weeks, down to
3 seconds in the last weeks. Full episodes of the programs can be found on MTV.com. Whoever can correctly identify the most routines
(crew and song title) will be the winner. In Rounds 1-4, you only need to provide the crew name, for 2 points total. In Rounds 5-12, you will need to give BOTH the crew and the tune (1 point each).
Rules: This contest will go on for 12 weeks and the person with the highest cumulative number of answers will win either a Tshirt or other merchandise of his/her choice OR music from District78.com available on ITunes, worth up to $35. In the event of a tie, we'll play a mix of 30 ABDC Master Mixes. Whoever can correctly identify the most routines (crew and song title) will be the winner. If there is still a tie after that, we will randomly choose the winner. To make it a little harder, we are disabling the comments for the contest posts. Send your answer to abdccontest@gmail.com; we will NOT confirm whether you have the right answer. Please do not post your answer in on this site or elsewhere -- we want to keep this fair. If I find that you've posted the answer online, you are permanently disqualified from the contest and banned from all comments. Answers for this week's puzzle must be received by midnight July 18, 2010.
