Exclusive video: Interview with Poreotix and Blueprint Cru together - what they REALLY think about each other

At the red carpet for the America's Best Dance Crew finale after-party, Chris Trondsen and Fanny Pak's Glenda Morales interviewed Poreotix and Blueprint together. The ABDC finalists joke about what they think about  each other, how they bonded during the last week, what Poreotix plans to do with the $100,000 and Blueprint's feelings about leaving Los Angeles and returning to Canada.

Red carpet Poreotix video: Our next goal -- win Hip Hop International World Championship

Chris Trondsen, Fanny Pak's Glenda Morales, and Hip Hop International conducted a joint interview of America's Best Dance Crew Season 5 winners Poreotix at the red carpet event after the ABDC5 finale. Poreotix celebrate with us and announce their next big goal: to win the Hip Hop International World Championship in 2010. They won the US division in 2009 and will be defending their title -- but they want more!

ABDC Madness Semifinals Round 1: JC Chasez vs. Omarion

We are into the Semi-finals round of our ABDC March/April Madness contest, pitting 32 primo quotes by Lil Mama, JC Chasez, Shane Sparks, and Lil Mama against each other to determine the 'Best ABDC Judge Comment EVER'.   Each day we'll give you 2 quotes; vote every day for your favorite. Click here for rules and explanation.  Today, you pick your favorite between 2 judges: Did ABDC veteran judge JC Chasez give the iconic quote, or did the rookie Omarion sneak in there for a place in the finals. You decide:

World of Dance Promo on Good Day LA, featuring Chris and Breed

Had to share this -- Chris Trondsen got about 2 hours sleep on Friday morning, rushing from the ABDC red carpet coverage to go on Good Day LA to promote World of Dance Pomona. Here is the clip, featuring Chris and Breed Crew. You have to stay for the whole clip to listen to the comments from the Good Day LA hosts -- there is a reason they are constantly featured on E's The Soup!

Congratulations Swaggasaur -- winner of our ABDC5 Top 4 contest!

Swaggasaur is the winner of our Top 4 Challenge for America's Best Dance Crew Season 5. He/she picked the right combination during Week 3 of our contest, before the Nationals competitions even began! Here's the original info about the contest.  Swaggasaur -- email us at BloggingBestDancecrew@gmail.com so we can get you your T-shirt prize!

FYI -- during Week 3, JPJarred sent in an entry that would have won if Blueprint Cru had taken the title -- which they almost did given the closeness of the final MTV vote. In contrast, in ABDC3 the winning combination was picked 2 weeks before the finale and in ABDC4 the winning combination was picked only one week before the finale. Maybe everyone is just getting smarter!

Just announced: JabbaWockeeZ to dance at WOD Pomona TODAY & give away tickets to their Las Vegas show!

We JUST learned that JabbaWockeeZ will perform and close out the show at World of Dance Pomona today. This is the JabbaWockeeZ who won America's Best Dance Crew Season One, and not the members from the extended crew. AND --  they are also announcing information about their upcoming Las Vegas show at the MGM Grand and  giving out free tickets to the fans to attend that show.

So, here's one last reason to go to WOD Pomona today, in addition to watching Blueprint Cru and 7 other ABDC crews! Click here for the full information and to get your tickets.

LA Times Recap: videos with Randy Jackson, all the judges, Poreotix and Blueprint Cru

LA Times held the prime spot on the America's Best Dance Crew Finale after-party red carpet. Their interviewer -- choreographer Chonique Sneed who was also a judge for the ABDC5 auditions -- talked to all the judges, Randy Jackson, and Poreotix and Blueprint Cru (the two finalists). Click here to watch it all.

In case you're wondering about what we'll show you: we were assigned dead last on the red carpet out of over a dozen media groups large and small. Because of this, unfortunately we were not able to get everything our fans wanted. In fact, we had to share a Poreotix interview with another interviewer (things ran late and MTV didn't give us the extra time for a separate interview). But never fear -- Chris Trondsen and Glenda  have great interviews with most of the other crews, some alumni and some surprises. I'll start getting them ready for you and release some today.

Exclusive: Short video of Dumbo (Poreotix) preparing for HHI Finals

A little more Poreotix for you: Here's a very short video I took at before the 2009 Hip Hop International Finals. I ran into Poreotics backstage and Dumbo demonstrated a few moves for me.

Video: One more great fan-made tribute to Poreotix and Blueprint Cru

Lauren Thriller made this tribute video to America's Best Dance Crew's Final 2, called Poreoprinters:

Congratulations Poreotix -- ABDC 5 Champions!

Poreotix came to America's Best Dance Crew Season 5 with an established fan base, especially after winning the U.S. Division of the 2009 Hip Hop International. And, on America's Best Dance Crew, Poreotix exceeded  fans' expectations. One aspect of a successful ABDC crew is distinctiveness in style and execution (e.g. Jabba WockeeZ, Quest, Beat Freaks, Fanny Pak). Well, nobody else is like Poreotix!

When the crew was criticized for several weeks by JC Chasez, they rose to his challenge with humor and style change-ups. Each week, they were 'ready for battle'. But, I can also tell you that they (like most ABDC crews) are even more compelling to watch live than they are on TV. Luckily, they will be performing live with World of Dance, and perhaps other dance events.

This post is only for positive comments about Poreotix. If you have something else to say, please take it to the Party Room/Critics Corner.

Send some love to Blueprint Cru - ABDC5 Runners Up!

I've been a major fan of Blueprint Cru since the  first day of the America's Best Dance Crew Season 5 auditions in New York. I've watched some of the auditions for Seasons 3 through 5, and it was the BEST I could remember. Afterward, everyone in the room was talking about how they HAD to get on the show despite potential visa problems.

They never disappointed me. Each week, they surprised and entertained the audience with their precision, expertise, and storytelling. While each week was great, the Bad Romance performance is one of my favorites for ANY season. I am glad they will be performing live with World of Dance New York (and possibly other venues) and hope that hip hop dance fans get the opportunity to see a masterful dance group.

This post is only for positive comments about Blueprint Cru. If you have something else to say, please comment in the Party Room/Critics Corner.

Video: Poreotix give play-by-play on the final 'verdict' at the ABDC Finale

Angelica Alumia and TK Nguyen of Pacific Rim talk to Poreotix after the taping of America's Best Dance Crew's Season 5 finale. The ABDC5 winners talk about what was on their mind while waiting to hear who won, the difficulty of the final week, and how they'd like to go on tour with ABDC (with Season 5 or seasoned fries) and win Hip Hop International. They predict that they will be busy (though less busy than on ABDC) -- I bet they're right!

Upcoming Events - Week of April 9

  • 4/10: World of Dance Pomona with Hype 5-0, Jungle Boogie, Blended Projekt, Heavy Impact, Ringmasters, Royal Flush, Strikers All-stars and the ABDC5 runner-up.
  • 4/10: Main Event Competition in Rahway, NJ with Rhythm City, Fanny Pak, Fr3sh, Kaba Legacy and more in exhibition and competing.
  • 4/11: Main Event workshops in Rahway NJ with Arnel Calvario (Kaba Legacy), Kara Horibe (Fanny Pak), Mike Song (Kaba Modern) and a mystery guest
  • 4/12: Beat Freak Rino teaching at Team Millennia dance studio in La Habra, CA
  • 4/15: America's Best Dance Crew Charity event, featuring all 5 winners of ABDC.

Thanks for the new banner, Shahin!

Several weeks back, Shahin designed three banners for me -- one for each of the top 3. I am proud to unveil his work now that America's Best Dance Crew Season 5 competition is over and a winner has been declared. In a few weeks, we'll have a banner showing all the ABDC winners, but for now the spotlight is on Poreotix!

Quick notes from the press tent: Nancy at the ABDC Finale Taping

I will post more on Saturday when I get home from Los Angeles. In the meantime, here's a few observations from tonight's taping of the America's Best Dance Crew Season 5 Finale:
  • Security was EXTREMELY tight, possibly because the post-show interviews were held on the Warner Bros Lot and not on the ABDC stage. Everyone who brought a camera had to drive to a special gate to have their equipment inspected and checked for explosives. Really.
  • Watching the show in the press tent is like watching a a fraternity, minus the beer. Similar camaraderie, very funny comments, similar scruffy outfits (especially compared to the girls behind Mario)
  • Favorite moment during the taping: almost everyone in the press tent recited in unison "tik tik tik tik tik tik tik tik tik tik tik tik tik" along with the tape of JC's quote.
  • There was real disagreement on who should win, though people were not surprised at the result
  • I also learned that there was less than 1% difference in the vote counts between Poreotix and Blueprint, and that most of the votes were cast online (not by phone or text)
  • Chris and Glenda have a WONDERFUL relationships with the crews, so we have interviews with almost all of them. I'll post them as they become available.

  • Kyle Hanagami (formerly of Lost Kids) choreographed a dance for Choreographers Carnival on March 31, 2010 that features dancers from Neverland, Fanny Pak, and other prominent performers in the LA area. Youtube's video of the performance had the audio stripped off; here's an intact version:

A little more info on Poreotix and Blueprint: Poreotix style, Blueprint Thanks!

In the spirit of fairness, I don't want to feature one final 2 crew over the other while the voting is still open. So here's 2 for the 'price of one':
  • On the Poreotix blog, Dumbo posts an excellent explanation of their style and what it means artistically to dance like a Poreotix member. This is a must for any fan of America's Best Dance Crew to understand how a crew meets the ABDC challenges but remains true to itself. Thanks for the link, Mark!
  • Pacific Rim interviews Blueprint Cru founder Steve Bolton. Steve talks about how thrilled Blueprint Cru is to be in the top 2 on America's Best Dance Crew: "We didn't even expect to be on the show!", how hard Blueprint and Poreotix have worked this season, and how much they appreciate the opportunity they've been given by appearing on ABDC.

Voting closes in a few hours -- get your last ABDC votes in now!

MTV is closing the lines for America's Best Dance Crew's voting at 1pm ET Thursday. So, if you still want to do more to support your favorite crew, act NOW. Here's the link for the voting info.

What were your favorite ABDC Season 5 performances?

Now that America's Best Dance Crew Season 5 competition is nearly over, it's time to look back and nominate your favorite performances from the Regionals and National episodes. Leave a comment on what you consider the highlights. Next week, we'll run a survey so that you can vote for your favorites!

Finale Group dances: some previews of what to expect

It sounds like the crews are going outside their comfort zones for the ABDC Finale's group dances. The crews will be grouped by regions, and, as usual, the top 2 will also have a group routine
  • From MTV Remote Control: The East Coast crews will all be doing some jumping rope with Saltare
  • From a different MTV Remote Control post: Strikers All-Star member Tallie Brinson is teaching Poreotix and Blueprint Cru how to do step dancing.

Video: Bboy Flashmob in LA

According to reader Karen Chu, this is the first ever bboy flash mob organized by the guy who does Freestyle Session (IamCROS1). There's about 300 bboys/bgirls involved. First they tell the dancers that they're doing it twice and the first time they're doing it earlier then planned. Here's the first time they did it. Then they tell the dancers that they're not doing it again, but later, they find a lookalike for  Ben from Super Cr3w, reflock, and dance it a second time. Videos from StrifeTV Youtube channel. Thanks for the tip, Karen Chu!

Confirmed: Canadians CANNOT cast ABDC votes this week!

There have been MANY rumors here and on the MTV discussion boards that the rules were changed so that Canadians could vote for the Finale to choose which crew will win America's Best Dance Crew Season 5. Our sources checked and rechecked with the Production Staff. The answer: CANADIANS STILL CANNOT VOTE. Do not believe the rumors!! And, PLEASE do not try to ascribe nefariuos motives to anyone who has helped spread the rumor. I can assure you that the Top 2 crews want a fair fight and are not trying to cheat!

So, if you are a United States inhabitant who wants Blueprint Cru to win, do not be complacent: VOTE NOW for them. And, if you are a Poreotix fan, do likewise! JUST VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE CREW!

Ninjaboi's Review of ABDC5's Hip Hop Nation/Last Chance Challenge show

"Here we are. The final episode that actually counts for the final vote. Sorry if it’s a bit late (get over it). Let’s get cracking. Oh, and if you don’t like my reviews, and think that they’re too one sided, then you don’t have to read them. Simple as that. Haters gotta hate, but then again, that’s the way the world works. Before you comment, read the BABDC rules for debate please:

    Summary for Hip Hop Nation:
    Hype – 42
    Poreotix – 39
    Blueprint -36

Summary for top 2 crews for the full season:
Blueprint (289.05) vs Poreotix (290.8) – Pretty close, too close to be statistically significant"

NOW HEAR THIS -- BABDC Rules of debate!

Things are geting heated here between the fans of different crews. So, I want to clarify some ground rules for the debate:
    1. Debate is welcome as long as it doesn't involve name calling, obscenity, and other personal attacks. That stuff convinces no one and will even work against you. And it makes more work for me to edit the comments.
    2. I do not want to ban anyone but I will do so if Rule 1 is repeatedly broken
    3. I do not mind if people post reasons for voting for their favorite crew. That is part of the debate. That said, a few points/allegations have been made ad nauseum, so please stop already. Those points include: whether Blueprint uses a choreographer who is not part of the ABDC team (they do not; I KNOW this; drop it!), whether Canada is part of America (it is part of North America, and if that's how the producers choose to define it, then it's their choice); Poreotix did something 'bad' for reusing one of their routines that is a fan favorite (nothing in the rules against that!).
    4. TELL US WHAT YOU LIKE ABOUT YOUR CREW, NOT WHAT YOU HATE ABOUT THE OTHER CREW. If you have constructive criticism of the other crew, that is fine; do not just insult them for the sake of insulting them. You will change more minds that way, keep the readers (and the crews who DO read here) on point, and set a tone that will help future seasons of ABDC.

March/April ABDC Madness: JC Chasez Round 2 Day 2

Though it's now April, we are still working through  ABDC March Madness (aka the Big Boy Challenge), pitting hard-hitting competition from 32 primo quotes by Lil Mama, JC Chasez, Shane Sparks, and Lil Mama against each other to determine the 'Best ABDC Judge Comment EVER'. Now we're into Round 2, where we narrow down the best from each judge. Each day we'll give you 2 quotes; vote every day for your favorite. Click here for rules and explanation.  Today, we choose between two more Round One favorites from JC Chasez:

Exclusive Video: KM's Arnel Calvario talks about who should win ABDC5!

Kaba Modern founder/choreographer Arnel Calvario and Fanny Pak's Glenda Morales give their reasons why each of the final 2 crews -- Poreotix and Blueprint -- should win America's Best Dance Crew Season 5, based on their last chance challenge and the cumulative performance. They also talk about how memorable these last chance challenge was compared to prior ABDC seasons.

Fanmade Video tributes to Hype 5-0

Hype 5-0 will not be named America's Best Dance Crew, but they are still well-loved. Here are two fanmade tribute videos, different but both wonderful:
