Second field report on the Houston ABDC auditions - callback crews, experience inside the auditions studio

Art reports back on the action inside the studio where the Houston auditions were held:
I attended the Houston audition. At first all the crews were standoffish to each other. The producers and cameraman had all the crews join together in the street in a big freestyle circle. I have videos that I can post if you guys like. The vid shows PacMan and a couple members of his crew freestyling. All kinds of crews were there, and all ages, from little girl crews who looked like they were 5, to crews with a ton of experience. 41 crews auditions and 18 received call backs. Didn't really have time to walk around since my crew was auditioning itself, because they wanted everyone to stay in a certain area after you received a call back so they could find you.

A couple of the crews who received a call back were:
--Wreckless - crew from Florida, which you might remember on America's Got Talent season 5
--I.Am.Me - PacMan's all star crew
--TRAFFIKjam - an Austin based crew with an interesting style close to Fanny Pak's
--Second 2 None- didn't really get a chance to talk with them
--U4ria Dance Crew - featured on 106 N Park, along with other shows
--Mad Skills Dance Crew - a portion of a much larger dance company who have a down south swag type of style
--Alien Tactics - an Austin based crew with clean hard hitting choreo
--STAK'D - another Austin crew whos have a down south swag style to them with hard hitting choreo
--Beat Junkeez - didn't really get a chance to speak with them

--Illovation

Del reports about the Houston ABDC Auditions (with a video interview of STAK'D, a called-back crew)

Reader/contributor Del attended the Houston auditions for America's Best Dance Crew Season 6 and talked to some of the crews. We'll post his video interviews over the next few days; here's his conversation with STAK'D and his field report:

Since I got there real early I got to see the crowd develop as time went on. There seemed to be a nice turn out there and even when I was leaving there were more and more crews coming in to get into the line. I didn't get a chance to meet that many BABDC favorites like U4Ria or Ben10 and his new crew, but I did run into I.aM.mE and Second2None (from San Antonio) along with STAK'D and a couple of others. Click here to read about those that I met.
Thanks Del!

The prize goes to the highest cumulative score (plus winner of the tie-breaker) over this 10-week contest. The deadline for this puzzle is midnight on January 30, 2011.

This week's question:  America's Best Dance Crew and So You Think You Can Dance have had a lot of people appear on or audition for both shows. What members of Poreotics tried out for So You Think You Can Dance? Email your answer to ABDCContest@gmail.com. Good luck!

A Third field report (listing favorite crews) for the Chicago ABDC auditions

Jean Sebastian reacts to our earlier posts about the Chicago auditions for America's Best Dance Crew Season 6. Thanks Jean! Here's the report:
I was there too from the beginning and I saw probably 35 to 50 crews, the room was hot as Hell at the beginning and nearly we keep inside. This was a really big dance room. In the registration table I looked upon a three pages of the crews that were registered to take over the dance floor.  With this detail out of my chest, the crews that take my breath away are the following:
  •  An all-girl crew (don't remember their name but I think they had someone from A.S.I.I.D. choreograph their number). These girls were hot like hell, they dance ok but they have a great opportunity to get into the show cause they have a great sex appear like the Fly Khicks from season 3. Looking forward to see them on the show.
  • Stereo Junkies. With the headphone in their heads mark something interesting, and their style of dance. Sick!!!
  • 787 Crew. I don't understand what is the problem with people leaving comments to this crew, they were great. They don’t have only the dance factor. Styles, props that they use, and the neon part is what really complements this crew. Everybody in the audition stops once to watch their performance and It was off the hook.
  • N-10city.  This crew seem to me like a part of Vogue Evolution but they bring an more hoody flavor cause they perform different styles in the same routine...and the guy with the Mow hack that I never seems before was crazy like hell.  I think they had been auditioning quite a while for ABDC and pass till the final stage but never get the call to get into the show.  I hope they made it this time.
  • And finally but not less important: 8 count.  This guys was like being seeing Blueprint back again into the stage. They were really awesome with their transitions and routine. Wasn't nothing new about it. They were one of my favorite though cause they really killed it at the call back. I know the Blueprints will be more than happy to see this crew back again into the stage of ABDC season 6.

Hype 5-0 x Aloha Inc. Collaboration - Vote for them now!

Who remembers "The Jerk" from the New Boyz? (Rhythm City from ABDC4 maybe?)  They're holding a contest to find the best jerkers out there, and members of Hypersquad studio (home of Hype 5-0 ABDC5) have put together a crew known as Aloha Inc.

This week, they battle Second to None from California.  You can view their battle here, and vote for whoever you think did better.  Voting ends January 31st so get on it!

In order to show their love for their studiomates, Hype 5-0 has put out this collab video with Aloha Inc. in order to get your votes!  Dope dancing guys!

Another field report on the crews auditioning for America's Best Dance Crew in Chicago

Finn the Human reports on the America's Best Dance Crew auditions in Chicago on January 21. Thanks, Finn the Human!

I attended the Chicago auditions and was surprised at how many crews did NOT show up considering this is the first time in 2 or 3 seasons the Midwest was back in the picture. I'd say about 15 to 20 crews were there. Amongst all of the auditioning crews I recognized quite a few of them:
  • 8 Count as we all know to be affiliated with Blueprint Cru. Their choreo was very clean and precise! A mixture of Fanny Pak and Blueprint! Def a team we should all watch out for.
  • A group with really big terrible masks on called Incognito.
  • There was an awesome group of guys from Canada called The Union. As they were running through their set everyone stopped and watched in awe! They are also a team we should look out for. 4 crews out of Indianapolis attended the audition.
  • Dynasty, who brought a different style to the show called Buckin. They give off the vibe that Ringmasters gave off. Kind of unkempt but they made the shortlist. Too much dance.
  • A group of about 10 with members no older than 17. The youngest girl in the group is 8 and she is definitely the star but with RNG auditioning, I doubt this crew will see any time on the show.
  • J'Dore, All girl crew all scantily clad who sadly didn't make it past the first cut.
  • My favorite crew from the Chicago auditions and they went by the name D2B short for Destined 2 Be. They have been a crew to look out for ever since the Auditions for Season 2 so hopefully this is their year. The group is very different from the group we've all seen on America's Got Talent: Only 1 original member and the other 6 are all from other Midwestern states.
  • 787. A group from Puerto Rico. Amazing dance team with amazing stunts and an amazing look. They all look like little Puerto Rican Dumbos with a mix of hype 5-0.
  • Vixenz crew that has a team of 7 GORGEOUS ladies. The whole room froze when the entered the room. They could be trouble for other crews solely on their look.
  • N-10City. A group of 5 guys with wild colors and crazy hairstyles. Looks like a vogue crew.
  • Stereo Junkiez from Chicago with members from A.S.I.I.D. They had a fresh look and choreo that puts you in the mind of Fanny Pak.
  • Puzzle League from Chicago. If any crew from these auditions could make it based off of choreo alone then this would be the crew. Insanity!
  • There were about 3 crews there that were foot work crews so maybe we will see some footwork on the show.

Answer to ABDC Trivia Contest Week 7: Lady Gaga

Thanks to everyone who entered Week 7 of our ABDC Trivia Contest. At this point, we have a 3-way tie between AnotherCreator, Florian, and VivalaVix with 7 points each, and quite a lot of people just one point behind.  If we still have a tie after Week 10, I'll announce a tie-breaker challenge (if anyone has some superb ideas on this, please email me at BloggingBestDanceCrew@gmail.com).

This week's question:What musical artist has been performed to by the most crews? Answer: Lady Gaga's songs were danced to by 17 America's Best Dance Crew competitors,  beating out close contenders Beyonce (15), Chris Brown (12), Britney Spears (12), Black Eyed Peas (12), and Lil John (12). An interesting factoid mentioned by 3 entrants: Ke$ha is the only artist who has been danced to by 7 crews in a single season without having her own artist challenge. Here's the enumeration for Lady Gaga (thanks, Ninjaboi):
  • Season 3: 6 crews -- Quest, Beat Freaks, Fly Khicks for Hip Hop Decathlon; Dynamic Edition Illusion Week; Team Millennia and Boxcuttuhz (along with Beat Freaks who are already counted) in the reunion
  • Season 4: 4 crews --We Are Heroes, Afroborike, Massive Monkees for the top 3 challenge;Beat Ya Feet Kings for Martial Arts Week
  • Season 5: 7 crews performed during Lady Gaga week
The next trivia question will be posted tomorrow!

Field report from Dance Fan on the Chicago ABDC auditions

DanceFan (a BloggingBestDanceCrew.com reader) left a brief report on the America's Best Dance Crew 6 auditions in Chicago on January 21, 2010. Here's the writeup. Thanks DanceFan!

I attended the Chicago audition on the 21st and it surprised me. Chicago brought out major talent this year with many styles. It was a couple crews that stood out 2 me though bcuz they were unique. One crews goes by the name of N-10-City (I think that's how they spell it) but this was unique from their dance style to their outfits. They had funky outfits in yellow, purple, black, and white; all crew members with a different look. One of them even had a Mohawk designed like i never seen before. This crew style is interesting to me because they combine more than one style. Would be nice 2 see them on the show. I actually think they might have a chance because they are unique, just stood out from other crew styles. A lot of crews had the same similar style and similar as crews from past seasons.

Another crew was 787 from Puerto Rico. Amazing crew with amazing moves. Some crew members danced with G.O.P. Crew who was on season 3 but this new crew 787 brings more talent than G.O.P. They would be an excellent choice also for the show.

One more crew i remember was 8 Count, another crew from Canada. They also were at the audition with Blueprint Cru members. This Canadian crew brings energy, hardcore choreo, and wicked moves...very ready and willing to take what Blueprint Cru was short of getting.

I really want to see all these crews make the show. I hope they do.

Mailbox: Profile of Blueprint Cru, Another Canadian crew for ABDC?, PureMovement at Stanford

  • JustalilHype.com posted an in-depth interview with ABDC5's Blueprint Cru. Among the topics: how they formed, the hardest parts of working on America's Best Dance Crew, differences in the dance scene between Canada and the rest of the world, and advice for aspiring dancers. Thanks for the tip, DirtfaceX!
  • According to BC Local News, Canadian crew Kick It Up a Notch will be auditioning in Los Angeles for the new season of ABDC. Their choreographer was urged to audition by Blueprint Cru's president, Steve Bolton. No video available yet.

Hype Auditions

Sorry for the last minute post, but...

Just a reminder that The Hype (parent crew of ABDC 5's Hype 5-0), are holding auditions tonight!

So if you're in Hawaii, definitely go out and show your support!

If you can't make it tonight, don't worry.  They'll be having another round of auditions next Thursday, the 27th.

Let us know if you attend the ABDC auditions in Houston and Chicago this weekend!

America's Best Dance Crew's audition judges are now on the road. They will be in Chicago on January 21 and Houston on January 23. We hear that nobody except MTV will be allowed to video or photograph any of the auditions, but we'd still like to hear about the scene or see any footage outside the audition room! If you attend either of the try-outs as an auditioner, a supporter, or a member of the press, please let us know which crews you see, what the atmosphere is like, who the audition judges are, the audition process this season, etc. We'll post your report with the proper credits (of course). Thanks!

Advice for crews auditioning for ABDC6 from the Casting Director

Here's some advice on auditioning for America's Best Dance Crew, from ABDC Casting Director Michelle McNulty. We posted many of these word of advice (with some modification for Season 6) just before Season 5, and it still applies:
    • How to register: For audition location, registration, how to apply, and other details, go to ABDCCasting.com
    • Key success factors are the same as earlier seasons: branding, versatility, being true to yourself, engaging the audience, staying non-defensive. Details here.
    • Who should audition: Season 6 has slightly different rules: it is the first season that will allow dancers of all ages. Crews should have 5-7 members (if you want to include more members, contact ABDC@mtv.com for permission). They welcome crews that auditioned for earlier seasons. Details here.
    • Advice to new crews: If you are forming a new crew, make sure that all performers are at the same high level. One weaker dancer can pull down the entire crew
    • Show something new! Traditional hip hop styles are welcome -- they want the b-boys and choreo crews to come out to audition. But crews have to show something different than what's already appeared on the show. Example: since Ringmasters were successful in Season 3, several crews auditioned for Season 4 showing similar bone-breaking moves. MISTAKE!
    • NO BYTING of other crews' signature moves, whether or not the original appeared on ABDC!
    • Common mistakes: here are three common problems with audition routines that should be avoided

Videos: Klaamation and Baby-Maation in music videos and in live performance

Some news from Klaamation, who may also be auditioning for America's Best Dance Crew Season 6: they choreographed "Magnetic" by Audio (featuring Akon), and performed in Japan with Baby-maation and in Korea  with Drake. Thanks for the link, theEmp!

Our first true challenge week.  This week kicks off what was to become somewhat of a tradtion through out the series.  Most of us who follow the series have fond memories every time a version of this challenge is performed.  For this episode onward I will be adding a section to each crew's write up on my feelings of how well they did their challenge for the week.  In addition, to make sure I get everything I will be watching each performance three times instead of twice. Watch here and click here to read his review. (If you want to watch ahead to the next episode, click here).
    Thanks Teldon!

So here we are ready to start off the first season.  The nine crews have been selected and thay have to battle each other to see who is going to stay to fight for our votes.  How well did these nines crews do this first week?  Did they live up to their legacy?  Lets find out! Poreotics: is a TV show and Las Vegas revue in their future?

RadarOnline reported that ABDC5 winners Poreotics are in negotiations for a TV show that documents their preparations for Hip Hop International and for a Las Vegas show like JabbaWockeeZ' MUS.I.C.  "A source close to production told RadarOnline.com the new show will follow the dance crew to Las Vegas, where they'll be headlining their own act on the Strip. "The show is about the cameras following the current champions' journey to defend their title from ABDC to the World Championships in Vegas...It's also a behind-the-scenes look into creating their live Las Vegas show.""

    Another ABDC6 auditioner: Illmatic Phlow

Illmatic Phlow from Miami are the latest team to announce their intention to audition for America's Best Dance Crew Season 6. Here's some of their work, from the bboyexclu Youtube Channel.

Answer to ABDC Trivia Contest Week 6 = 2

Thanks to everyone who entered this week's ABDC Trivia Contest. The number of entries is declining, either because 1. people aren't enjoying this as much as earlier contests, 2. they don't know the answers and don't want to guess, or 3. they think mistakenly that they are out of the running if they skipped a week or two.

There were 13 correct answers this week to the question: How many times did Poreotics audition for America's Best Dance Crew BEFORE getting onto the show? Poreotics unsuccessfully auditioned for the third and fourth season, and were successful in their third attempt. I am giving credit to all answers that showed they knew the right answer (i.e., those who said three but included Season 5 in their explanations).  I'll post a new question tomorrow.

ABDC Rewatch - Season One Audition Special -- what really happened!

Hi folks!  For those that do not know me, I am Teldon.  I have been a huge fan of the show since almost the beginning (I started watching season one at Thriller week) and I love to talk about what has happened on the stage.  For a while now I have seen that many of us are always comparing crews from different season against each other.  I feel that most of us unfairly (whether good or bad) remember performances from past seasons.   What I am challenging us as fans to do is to go back and re-watch all the seasons without the previous love, hate or indifference we had for the crews performing.

I am going to start at the beginning of the series and work my way to the Champions for Charity Episode.  I am going to watch every episode all the way to the end with no skipping past anything.  This time around I am going to be more open minded to all performances and judge them on their own merits.  Nothing they do before the show or after the show will factor in.  Only time spent on the ABDC stage will count. I only ask you all that you please keep an open mind through out this look back.  You may surprise yourself and learn to enjoy crews you did not like or see one of your favorites in a new light.

Watch the live audition here, then click here to read my criteria, how I am going to judge, and this episode's review. [Note from Nancy: definitely try this at home. You may be surprised at what you find, just as Teldon is surprised that he has JabbaWockeeZ in the bottom 3].

More World of Dance Awards coverage: Video Montage; Ellen Degeneres show

As befits the winner of the Best Media Coverage award from World of Dance, Pacific Rim created a montage of the action at the WOD awards, including: interviews with Poreotics, Beat Freaks, Arnel Calvario and more; snips of some of the dance acts, and scenes from the afterparty.
In addition, Ellen Degeneres mentioned on her show that she was nominated for a WOD award for best TV dance performance and reran the So You Think You Can Dance Clip. Thanks for the tip, ubiquitous Guest!

Memorial tribute video from Neyon (Royal Flush) to honor four untimely deaths

It's Martin Luther King Day/ I think it would be great if all of us take time to remember why the Reverend deserved commemoration, and also to honor the memories of others who lived in an upright and inspiring manner. That's why I want to feature this video from  Neyon of Royal Flush (America's Best Dance Crew Season 5), who created a touching tribute to four teens who died too young --Cameron Irvin, Jamark McCloud, Bobby Tillman, and Ben Napier.

New BABDC feature starting this week -- Teldon's ABDC Rewatch!

One interesting phenomenon about watching a competitive reality series like America's Best Dance Crew: most of us shift our opinions about crews as the season goes along, and we forget how we really felt about crews week-to-week. We all think we are right in what we do remember about how well the crews did with their time on the show. We become fanboys/fangirls for a crew and remember neither the stellar performances from crews that leave early nor the mediocre performances from crews that stepped up their game later in the season.

Teldon came up with the idea of rewatching all the episodes of America's Best Dance Crew, breaking down each crew's performance on each show. We'll post these a day at a time, along with a link to the show. You might be surprised, upon reflection, about how America's Best Dance Crew and your favorite groups evolved. At the very least, we should have some involved commentary!
So, come back tomorrow for Part I of America's Best Dance Crew Season 1, where Teldon critiques the crews on the Audition Special. And, if you want to play along, you can watch the ABDC1 Audition special today. There are 11 clips at this link that show the full program. And, thanks Teldon!!

Randy Jackson: ABDC6 starts Thursday April 7

Randy Jackson just appeared on MTV's The Seven. He stated that America's Best Dance Crew Season 6 will premiere on Thursday April 7, and there will be some surprises that he wouldn't name. He also talked about American Idol, body odor, kissing, and dogs.

    Video: U4ria -- getting ready for ABDC6?

Here's a new teaser video from U4ria, a Florida group that also appeared on America's Got Talent. It looks like they will be auditioning for the new season of America's Best Dance Crew also. Are they ready for MTV?

Reminder: World of Dance Awards show tonight in Los Angeles -- be there!

I can't attend (wrong coast!) but I encourage anyone in the Los Angeles area to spring for a ticket to the World of Dance Awards and after-party tonight. It appears that many acts will perform, with special awards for Arnel Calvario, John Chu, and the LXD. Click here to purchase. If you attend, please leave a comment about the event.

TiVO Alert: Randy Jackson might be on MTV's The Seven on Friday Jan. 14

There are two good reasons to believe that Randy Jackson will appear on MTV's The Seven on Friday January 14:
    - MTV told me he would be a guest on the show this week, but he hasn't been on yet
    - American Idol returns next week to Fox, so it's time for a little promotion
I'm going to TiVO the show on Friday (set to air at 5pm ET) to see if Jackson makes an appearance and, if so, if there is news about America's Best Dance Crew. If any of you attends the taping, let us know!

In Case U Missed It: Blueprint Cru wins @ Monsters of Hip-Hop 2007

Welcome to the newest column on bABDC! As we await for the new ABDC season to begin (and on slow news days), In Case U Missed It will feature videos and news tidbits relevant to ABDC, but aren't exactly 'up to date' (and wasn't previously posted on this site). If you would like to contribute to this column, leave a comment on the board and I'll take care of it.

Nearly three years before dancing their way to the finals of Season 5, Canada's Blueprint Cru (made up of ALL females at the time) took first place at Orlando's Monsters of Hip-Hop 2007 with this dance piece entitled 'Angel'. The performance below took place at 8Count's 2008 Year End show. The actual
Monsters of Hip-Hop performance can be found here.

Video: Elektrolytes prepare for ABDC 6

It looks like Elektrolytes will also be auditioning for America's Best Dance Crew Season 6. They've won Arizona's Best Dance Crew and have auditioned for multiple seasons of ABDC-- maybe their time has finally come. From Salsgroovefactory Youtube Channel. Thanks for the tip, JJVirus!

Live to Dance Party Room is now open -- come on in!

UPDATE: Live to Dance will not start until 9PM ET.  Sorry for the incorrect info (from TV Guide).

Yet another TV Dance Show: The Dance Scene

According to Entertainment Weekly, E! has a show called the Dance Scene that will premiere April 10, 2011. The eight-episode half-hour show will document Laurieann Gibson (Lady Gaga's choreographer) as she trains assistant choreographers and dancers.
"The competitive world of the professional dancer is grueling creative work,” says Lisa Berger, executive vice president of programming at E! “Watching Laurieann mentor these young artists, who will do anything to make it in the business, gives us a glimpse into a world where the pursuit of success and excellence outweighs all else."

To get a feeling for the show, here's Gibson's reel from the AbramsArtistLA Youtube Channel (her talent agency).

Join us tonight for the Live To Dance Results Show Party Room!

We'll have a party room open tonight at 7:45pm ET for those of you watching Live to Dance on CBS. Will Inside the Box or Theatrix make it to the Top 18? Or just join us to talk about the upcoming auditions or other semi-related topics. Update: Live to Dance will start at 9PM ET/PT, not 8PM as previously announced.

    Video of STAK'D -- auditioning for ABDC6

STAK'D crew has posted on Youtube that they will audition for America's Best Dance Crew Season 6. From their STAKDTV Youtube description: "STAK'D is focused on bringing dance to the world and showcasing talent from THE best city in Texas -- Austin. STAK'D plans to represent the South and Texas in a new way by combining our love of dance with our cultural backgrounds and the flavor of Austin. Austin is known as an eclectic center for arts and entertainment and as the heart of Texas. We have an intense desire to bring this spirit to life in our performances." The name is taken from first letter of the members' first names, since their goal is to showcase the individual talents of each member.

Answers to ABDC Trivia Contest Week 5: Isaac (Heavy Impact) OR Jia Huang (Kaba Modern) and...

Thanks to all of you who entered Week 5 of our ABDC Trivia contest. Despite our efforts to get a question with only one answer, there are two that are totally correct, and one other that I will give credit for. The question was: What ABDC contestant performed in a popular video that was used for another crew's "Music Video Challenge"?

I used quotations to try and make it clear that the name of the challenge was the "Music Video Challenge" and not just a challenge that incorporated videos. The only time the week's contest was called "Music Video Challenge" occurred during Week 2 of Season 5.  For that challenge:

    •  Static Noyze performed "New in Town" by Little Boot The original video included Isaac Tualaulelei from Heavy Impact as one of the dancers
    • Hype 5-0 performed "1 2 3" by Britney Spears. The original video featured Jia Huang of Kaba Modern.
In addition, because my instructions were not sufficiently clear, I am also giving credit to the 4 people who answered JabbaWockeeZ, since ABDC 1 Champions performed in the Daddy Yankee "Pose" video that Strikers All Stars danced to in season 3. Twenty answers were given full credit this week, with 5 weeks left to go. I'll have a new question up tomorrow.

Two videos on the history of digits and finger-tutting!

Here's some detailed lecture and demonstration on how finger-tutting has evolved, from the MrDigitalRelic Youtube Channel. Thanks for the tip, Steve!

Video: Swagger Crew promote Osiris Shoes

Osiris Shoes is the proud Sponsor of Swagger Crew (ABDC Season 5). This is the trailer for their upcoming promotional video which will debut on Saturday, January 15th, 2011 from the SwaggercrewTV Youtube Channel. I'm glad to see they are able to stay together and find sponsors for their dance -- America's Best Dance Crew alums seem to do better at this than former contestants on other competitive reality shows.

Saltare appear on Disney Channel's Shake It Up Tonight

The next America's Best Dance Crew group to appear on Shake it Up is Saltare -- their episode airs tonight (January 9, 2011) at 8:30 ET/PT. Here's the promo video for the episode. Thanks for the info, Brandon!

The description of this video starring Hok Konishi (ABDC's Quest Crew) and Phillip "Pacman" Chbeeb (I.aM.mE and Marvelous Motion) on the Hokuotkonishi Youtube Channel: "We wanted to play with the dynamics of both structured logical lines and animalistic formations with our bodies." Thanks for the link, BSG!

The website for CBS's "Live to Dance" posted full episodes and a few clips. The clips include two hip hop contenders already chosen for the Top 18 -- Chi-town's Finest Breakers and Jalen. In addition, CBS chose two clips of Inside the Box, who will learn next week if America voted them in or out: their initial audition and their dance-off. The Party Room for Live to Dance's Results show is now open -- join us!

Tonight, Live to Dance announces some of the acts that will compete in the semi-finals for the show, and they'll probably show more dance too. I'm really not sure; they didn't show much dance during the first episode and this one is half as long. In any case, you probably have an opinion on this, so join us in the party room and let it out! Will Jalen be robbed? Will Inside the Box be network stars? Is there some amazing talent on Live to Dance that will eventually appear on America's Best Dance Crew Season X? Tell us! Or just hang out and dish. Whatever. Oh, and that's Paula Abdul dancing here, showing you how it's done.

ABDC6 Audition video clip for Fallen Kings (consisting of ex-members of Flex Flav)

Fallen Kings is coming out for America's Best Dance Crew Season 6 auditions in Los Angeles. The crew's founders tried out for Season 4 as Flex Flav and won support from many of our readers though they didn't get picked for the show. Several members broke off into a new group, changed names twice (Street Scientists, and now Fallen Kings), added members (with an expanded crew that includes Quest members Dtrix and Victor Kim, who will not be part of the ABDC6 audition team), and modified their style. Here's the audition video showing both their ABDC4 routine and their new style. From the DereleekTV Youtube Channel. How you like them now?

World of Dance 2011 -- New website, 12 events, 11 cities, 3 countries!

World of Dance looks to be a powerhouse in 2011. They've redesigned their WorldofDanceTour.com website, adding more information, photos and videos. And their show schedule has been expanded, bringing dance to more places in the United States (Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, San Francisco, Chicago, San Diego, Hawaii), Canada (Toronto, Winnepeg, Vancouver), and Europe (London). Click here for the full event schedule.

World of Dance's first event for 2011 is their Awards ceremony and party in Los Angeles on January 14 to honor top dancers, choreographers, dance events and other players (including websites and media coverage) in the dance community. I can't afford to fly out to Los Angeles for this event, but I'd love to have a field reporter there!

Tonight: Premiere of Live to Dance -- and we'll have the party room open for the event!

Paula Abdul's Live to Dance premieres on CBS tonight at 8pm ET/PT. Based on preview videos like the one below, it looks like a dance version of American Idol with its focus on interesting and more-than-capable dancing, and less like So You Think You Can Dance or America's Best Dance Crew (which tries to showcase the best of the best dancers) or America's Got Talent (where novelty often trumps ability).

Will you watch? If so, feel free to join our party room post which will open at 7:30PM ET. Let us know what you think and who you want to win.

Answers to ABDC Trivia Contest Week 4: Saltare OR Legendary 7

It's not easy putting together an ABDC trivia contest. I thought that we had a simple to understand (but difficult to solve) question for Week 4:"What is the only crew in America's Best Dance Crew history to replace more than half its members from the original audition?"
It turns out there were two equally correct ways to understand the question:
    • If you consider only one season, Saltare was the only crew to replace more than half its members. Due to personal conflicts and issues with school, only two of the original six crew members who auditioned in Season 5 actually participated that season.
    • If you focused on the word 'original' in the question, then you could think of the question as covering multiple auditions and seasons. Legendary 7 participated in Season 5, but a few of the members tried out on Season 1 and performed on the show as Status Quo. This was NOT the intended answer, but is a legitimate reading of the question.
Even with multiple acceptable answers, there were only 10 correct responses this week. That means that anyone can still win if they do well in the next rounds of this contest. So, come back tomorrow for more!

Namaste and Happy New Year! Tell us how we can improve BABDC in 2011

I'm back from a two-week family trip to India, refreshed and ready for a new year on BloggingBestDanceCrew.com. First, I REALLY want to thank Ninjaboi, DirtfaceX, and Del for all their efforts keeping this site going for the last two weeks. I feel honored and lucky to have talented members of this community to keep it fresh, entertaining, and fun while I was mostly internet-less.

In keeping with that theme, I'd like suggestions on how BABDC might improve over the next year. I know that many of you are interested in discussion boards, which I will look into in a few weeks. What other improvements or features would you like to see -- party rooms during the off-season (and on which day?), more surveys, other types of content, more reader involvement (and if so, in what form)? Leave a comment. And thanks again!

    Thanks Nancy! Show some love!

As most of you know, over the past few weeks, Nancy has been out of town, unable to post on BABDC. We were honored when she asked us to keep posting stuff up in her absence. It has truly been a great experience to be part of something so much larger than ourselves. We hope that we were able to keep things running smoothly. For those of you who haven't experienced it, it really is tough to keep things both professional and find relevant news every day of the week, and she really deserves a round of applause (several in fact) for the great job she does. Whenever you need it, we're all down to do it again.

"AND AS WE EXIT, OUR BANNER MUST FALL...."

Again, thank you Nancy for this responsibility! Congratulations and good luck at the World of Dance Awards!

P.S.- In case Nancy doesn't back till late, here's a little news to hold you over.... The PacMan/Moon auditions went down and it looks like we have the crew- I.aM.mE. Check this video out from pacman's YouTube channel. Could the SOUTH take the crown this season????(-DirtFaceX)
