Answer to ABDC Trivia Contest Week 7: Lady Gaga

Thanks to everyone who entered Week 7 of our ABDC Trivia Contest. This week's question:What musical artist has been performed to by the most crews? Answer: Lady Gaga's songs were danced to by 17 America's Best Dance Crew competitors,  beating out close contenders Beyonce (15), Chris Brown (12), Britney Spears (12), Black Eyed Peas (12), and Lil John (12). An interesting factoid mentioned by 3 entrants: Ke$ha is the only artist who has been danced to by 7 crews in a single season without having her own artist challenge. Here's the enumeration for Lady Gaga (thanks, Ninjaboi): 

• Season 3: 6 crews -- Quest, Beat Freaks, Fly Khicks for Hip Hop Decathlon; Dynamic Edition Illusion Week; Team Millennia and Boxcuttuhz (along with Beat Freaks who are already counted) in the reunion
• Season 4: 4 crews --We Are Heroes, Afroborike, Massive Monkees for the top 3 challenge;Beat Ya Feet Kings for Martial Arts Week

Jay Battle from Southern Movement (America's Best Dance Crew Season 4) and Porche "Queen P" Anthony from Beat Ya Feet Kings (ABDC 4) are members of Thhe PJDancers, along with dancer/choreographer Jae Scott. The contest must be getting harder -- we had far fewer correct entries this week. The crew in our Week 7 blowup photo was Royal Flush, from America's Best Dance Crew Season 5. Here's the picture we posted:

 The clue was: 'What you get when you embarrass Beat Ya Feet Kings!' The answer used the royal connection (Kings and Royal). And, when you're embarrassed you flush with color (no we did not refer to any other meaning of flush here. Get your mind out of the toilet.)

YakFilms produced a nifty video showing all aspects of World of Dance New York. It shows snippets of all the ABDC crews -- Poreotix, Blueprint Cru, Static Noyze, Beat Ya Feet Kings, Southern Movement, Jungle Boogie, Rhythm City, and Fr3sh -- as well as practice and performance from many of the competitors. This video is the next best thing to working for World of Dance!

Beat Ya Feet Kings (America's Best Dance Crew Season 4) performed a mix of new and classic steps at World of Dance NY on May 29, 2010.

Report on World of Dance New York - winners, ABDC crews, fans!

World of Dance NY in Brooklyn on May 29, 2010 was HOT for many reasons:

• The event was sold out, as over 4200 people filled Brooklyn Tech.
• 43 different crews performed, including America's Best Dance Crew Season 5 alums (Poreotix, Blueprint, Jungle Boogie, Static Noyze 6) and ABDC5 Season 4 alums (Beat Ya Feet Kings, Rhythm City, Fr3sh, Southern Movement)
• It was not just a local show this year; there were crews from all over the U.S., as well as one crew (Psyde Project) from Australia and several from Canada
• The ABDC crews talked to fans and signed autographs for more than an hour
• There was no air conditioning!

Congratulations to the winning crews -- Psyde Project from Australia took first place, Static Noyze (the larger group, not the one on ABDC5) took second place, and The Family from Montreal won third place. Other awards: Static Noyze also won Best Theme, Project D won Best Costume, and Psyde Project was the Crowd favorite.

I got to WOD 2 hours before it began to stake out good seats. So over the next few days, I'll post videos of the winners, the ABDC crews, and some candid footage of the crowd and the crews. Just be patient -- I'm going to Glee Live today (can't wait to see LXD!) so I've got limited time to process videos right now! But they'll be worth the wait.

World of Dance NY May 29: All-star line-up for exhibition, industry showcase AND competition!

World of Dance New York returns on Saturday May 29. They booked a larger venue and MANY more acts. The cool thing that distinguishes WOD from other similar events is that it celebrates dance instead of just focusing on the competition. You'll see a raft of different styles and levels of expertise It gives many crews a chance to show their latest moves and many fans a chance to see their old favorites and find some new ones. The industry showcase features America's Best Dance Crew veterans including Poreotix, Blueprint Cru, Jungle Boogie, Static Noyze6, Beat Ya Feet Kings, Southern Movement, Vogue Evolution, and Rhythm City. 

Exhibition crews (not competing) include: Culture Shock DC, Formality, Fr3sh Dance Company, Future Shock, Kick Rock Crew, GnC, Mass Appeal, Mighty Shock, Project Nailz, Side Project and the Professionals.

There are  25 competitors including many familiar to people who follow the ABDC auditions and other competitions. These include: EPIC Motion, Fr3sh Juniors, Full Force, Part Time Models, Project D, Rhythmology, Static Noyze, World Class, and WyldStyl. And there will be a lot of vendors with new merchandise. I'll be there; I strongly recommend East Coast dance fans to join me.

Exclusive video: Beat Ya Feet Kings Porche: Our Season was wilder!

Porche from Beat Ya Feet Kings (ABDC Season 4) hung out with to Chris Trondsen and Fanny Pak's Glenda Morales at ABDC's Usher Challenge taping. Porche and Glenda get low to the music and chatedt about auditioning (and getting accepted) for the Fresh Beat Band, Porche's favorite crews on Season 5 and how it compares to Season 4, and the 'strange' relationship between Porche, Chris and Glenda.Much thanks to World of Dance, our partner for the ABDC backstage tapings!
