NAOTV Episode 20: Empire the Crew's callback routine

Hey there BBDC! While the upcoming season boasts one of the most solid lineups in ABDC history, there were still many great crews that didn't make the cut. One of them was fan favorite Empire the Crew from Guam. One of the last cuts in the selection process, this strong crew of young dancers showed their stuff performing to the D78 Mastermix of N*ggas In Paris, the West Coast callback mix. Best of luck to this crew in the future!

NAOTV Episode 18: "You'll Find A Way"

Hey there readers! Sorry for being a day late on this, I've had an extremely busy week. This week's episode features Ellen Kim's "You'll Find A Way". She breaks out of her usual style to send a message about how people hide some things about themselves from the outside world. She does it wonderfully, with the help of cinematographer Khoadratic Dinh and assistant choreographer Amanda Suk. Enjoy!

NAOTV Episode 17: Keone and Mari "Meeting"

Here it is! The final installment of the Keone and Mari trilogy, entitled "Meeting". Keone and Mari alone are already great choreographers, but together they are something beautiful. Aside from Keone and Mari's partner choreography, another creative aspect of the video were the dancing silhouettes that highlighted Keone and Mari's movements. Amazing work!

NAOTV Episode 16: Brian Puspos "Acura Integurl"

What is up BBDC? This week's episode features the newest upload to Brian Puspos' YouTube channel. In this video, Brian performs a moving tribute to his late grandfather. The beauty of this choreography really shows us why he won choreographer of the year at the World of Dance Industry Awards.

NAOTV Episode 15: "Booty Work"

Hey there! I know a bunch of you are going to love this week's video, as it features Aye Hasegawa, Chachi Gonzalez, and Ellen Kim performing Ellen's choreo to "Booty Work". These three lovely ladies are widely recognized for their swagger. They definitely bring it here.

NAOTV Episode 14: "Find"

What's up BBDC Fam? This week, NAOTV brings you the second installment of Keone Madrid and Mariel Martin's video series-"The Meeting". In this video, Mariel portrays her own battle with self-confidence through dance. Her choreography to Alicia Keys' "Superwoman" is full of emotion and displays the gradual emergence of her inner confidence.

Can't wait to see the final installment of this amazing series. That's not all for this week though. Check out this playlist here or scroll down for the rest of this week's videos.

---Other Dope Videos from This Week---

Bam Martin - "I'm Busy" - Bam returns from his knee injury with a bang! (or possibly a Bam? I'm so punny.) He is back and better than ever! He brings his usual explosiveness and throws in an insane sense of musicality by hitting multiple, quick, successive snares at the end.

Brian Puspos - "Rise and Shine" - Brian Puspos also started off his new year with a bang. Kub Skoutz, mL studio, and J Cole make for an incredible combination.

Napoleon Dumo & Chachi talk at ABDC auditions: personal lives (family, motocross!), projects

Chachi (IaMmE) and Chris Trondsen interview choreographer Napoleon Dumo at the Los Angeles auditions for America's Best Dance Crew. It's a long interview but contains revelations for fans of Chachi and the Dumos:
-In the first part, Napoleon talks about working on MOBBED, hoping to work on ABDC as well as American Idol this spring, his contact with the ABDC producers and Pacman (IaMmE) during ABDC Season 6, and the challenges for choreographing for multiple cameras
-The second half of the interview focuses on personal lives of Napoleon and Chachi: Napoleon being a father-to-be (and wanting a son!), family size, their mutual interest and involvement in Motocross. Thanks to MOVeMEDIAproductions.com for all the filming and production.

NAOTV Episode 13: Competition Week

Ayo, it's NAOTV! And this week, we're (and by we, I mean I) bringing you the best from two major dance competitions from this past weekend. First up, we have Choreo Cookies' winning performance from Vibe XVII. Always facing increasingly stiffer competition every year, Choreo Cookies seem to be forever a cut above the rest as they won yet another incredible competition. Their incredible choreography mixed together with creative concepts and masterful staging result in showcases that never cease to amaze.

Next we head on over to the East Coast, where FUSiON hosted Elements XII. Here, we see another first place finish by UFP, who continue to establish themselves as a dominant force in the East Coast dance scene.

All in all, it was a great weekend for dance competitions. For other dope videos from this week, check out this playlist here or follow me after the break.

---Other Dope Videos from This Week---

Pat Lam "Beat It Up" - The Alpha Beta Ninjas recently filmed a video featuring Pat Lam's choreo to "Beat It Up" by J. Valentine. Their smooth rnb moves are followed up by some goofing around at the end. Check it.

Empire The Crew Audition Routine - Guam's Empire gave its second shot at the ABDC stage with another high intensity routine to "Why Stop Now" by Busta Rhymes featuring Chris Brown. In my opinion, this crew should be a heavy favorite for the upcoming season.

"We're All Biters" - This video by B-boy ManOfGod shows how breaking has been historically inspired by other dance styles. It is one of a few videos StrifeTV has uploaded recently on the subject of biting in the bboy world. It's interesting to see the roots of the original and purest form of hip hop dance.

NAOTV Episode 12: Week of the Polyswag

Hello there BBDC! Polynesia was all over the place this week, with two videos by Parris Goebel making it onto this episode and a third video hailing from the Hawaiian Islands. Let's kick things off with Parris's class at the ML studio. This video was uploaded by Lil Bigz of Guam's Empire Kidz.

Next we have "Warm Up". This video was filmed at Palace Dance Studio and features ReQuest Dance Crew as well as members of Misfits.

And our last video from the wonderful world of Polynesia is Hazmat's combo to "Mr. Boombastic" by Shaggy. Still on his 90's vibe, Hazmat looks to be sticking with positivity in his pieces this new year.

---Other Dope Videos from This Week---

Beat Buddy Boi (2nd SEASON ROUND1) - Last season's Dance@Hero runner ups returned for the second season of this show. Judging from this performance, I say they are clear favorites for the win.

Tight Eyez "We Wear Black" - This man is a revolutionary. He's already made his mark by co-founding krump, and he continues to be a force in the street dance community by introducing us to krump-ography. It will be interesting to see where the movement goes from here.

Rusty Guinto - I've been meaning to show you guys the style of glowstringing for a while, but until now I haven't seen a good, recently uploaded video of it.

TAKE ME AWAY | DUBSTEP - Do I even need to say anything? Nonstop is amazing and his dancing speaks for itself.

NAOTV Episode 11: Funkin Styles

What's good readers? This week's episode of NAOTV takes us to the Hip Hop 1 on 1 final at Funkin Styles 2011. The event may be from last year, but it's always nice to watch the high quality battle footage provided by Yak Films. This battle has Batalla taking a close one over Majid for the Funkin Styles Hip Hop 1 on 1 crown. Check it out:

NAOTV Episode 10: That Next Thing

O hai pplz of teh interwebz! So I've been hard pressed for time this week and haven't been able to watch too many videos, so here's the two I liked the most.

Hazmat: Doo Wop (That Thing)

Hazmat starts of 2012 with a really fun piece that takes us back to the 90s. He shows us something different from his usual intense style. Me gusta.

Quick Crew: Next

Quick never fails to impress. Their first video of 2012 is no exception.

NAOTV Episode 9: "Hooligans in SF"

Happy 2012 BBDC! We're starting off the new year in San Francisco, where Ellen Kim filmed her first ever concept video. I like the different settings, including a section where she's vibing out in the subway (or whatever you guys call it in San Fran). Check it out yo'selves!

And since the rest of this week's vids are reposts, if you want to see them, check the playlist here.

NAOTV Episode 7: Holiday Edition

Happy Holidays BBDC! This week's episode is choc full of holiday themed videos. But all of those are after the jump because it would be blasphemy to not feature Lyle Beniga's choreography to "Bait" this week.

You can never go wrong with a Movement Lifestyle artist. Now onward to the Christmas/Chanukah/Kwanzaa/whatever other holidays people celebrate spirit! (and other, not exactly holiday related videos)

As usual, you can watch the playlist here or follow me after the jump.

---Other Dope Videos from This Week---

Quick-Christmas Concept 2-Let's get the holiday ball rolling by heading to Norway for Quick Crew's Christmas video. Normally, music box routines are performed by popping crews. Here, Quick puts their own unique spin on it with their unique style.

Mike Song, Phillip "Pacman" Chbeeb, and Di "Moon" Zhang-"Christmas Jiggy"- This was a very fun collaboration among three very talented ABDC alumni. Nothing says Christmas quite like pajamas, Santa hats, and dancing to Mariah Carey songs.

Dumbo n Chloe Christmas Freestyles-This was a great year for kid dancers getting exposure. Here we have Dumbo and his 11 year old student Chloe Enriquez freestyling to dubstep. For only training in popping for 6 months, this girl is pretty good.

Unveiled-Pacman's holiday present to his fans includes his signature style of choreography and I.aM.mE's trademarked Brain Banging. Performing alongside him are fellow crew members Millie and Jaja.

Jaja Vankova-"Promise"-Someone just made the naughty list! Jaja flaunts her sexy side in this video. Her rnb choreo is just as good, if not better than, as what we're used to seeing from her. Throw in some comic relief from 747 and her own mother, and you get a great video.

Faboo & Valentina by Tomson-Great production combined with great dancing is the best way for a dance video to get views. This video has just that. Really dope stuff.

Les Twins @ Tunay Ink Dance Studio-Les Twins and Yak Films. Need I say more?

NAOTV Episode 6: Bboy Venum

What is up BBDC? This week's episode highlights Bboy Venum of Skill Methodz crew. Not much explanation needed here about why it's dope. Venum's moves speak for themself.

To see more dope videos from this week, check out the playlist here or follow me after the jump.

---Other Dope Videos from This Week---

Mos Wanted Crew-WOD Hawaii 2011-I love this set. They first performed it at WOD Chicago and this time they bring it back much cleaner than before. But the main highlight for me here is Brian Puspos' solo. Great stuff.

"Trigger Fingers"-How could I not post this? Pacman and Moon are among the most brilliant duos to ever collaborate. What takes their already insane tutting to the next level is the way they incorporate the glass table. Amazing.

Top 5 Sets | OUTBREAK 7-StrifeTV compiled their top 5 sets from Outbreak 7 into this video. These dancers are all dope and have great stuff they bring to the table.

Yarus and Loony Boy-Yak Films does it again! This week, they presented us the incredible style known as Electro Dance. These two dancers impressed me with their amazing musicality as well as their intricate yet blazing fast arm threads and connects.

NAOTV Episode 5-Meet The Bootz Crew

What up y'all? This week's episode features The Bootz Crew, which is composed of Sarah Margozzi, Danielle Carreon, Ysabelle "Lil Bigz" Capitule, Natalie Krikland, and Miguelina Manriquez. The group will be one of many auditioners for the seventh season of ABDC. Here is their submission for mL's theTOUR Video Contest, choreographed by Nicole Kirkland.

NAOTV Episode 4: Astro Breaks the Universe

Is that Michael Jackson...bboying? Nope! It's B-boy Astro, as he stars in the latest production of JuBa Films: "Da Capo". His bboy skills mixed with the filmmaking genius of JuBa results in one of the most beautiful dance videos of the year. See for yourself:

BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE! As usual, it was another great week in dance. Check out these dope videos below (or in the playlist here).

---Other Dope Videos from This Week---
David Truong-"Slow Dance"-The David half of Houston's famous Truongs is back again, with a video of his choreo to Keri Hilson's "Slow Dance". He shows us a different side of his choreographing abilities by dancing to a slow jam. Dope stuff.

Mike Song-"Lights (Shook Remix)"-Mike Song never disappoints with his choreography, and this video is no exception. Another song with a slower tempo (guess this was a slow jam kinda week). Joining him are fellow KM6 members Yuri Tag and Cindy Minowa.

World Of Dance Chicago-Sikat-It's always impressive when a crew is really clean and really high energy at the same time. These guys definitely deserved first place at WOD Chicago. They have been drawing a lot of comparisons to GRV, which is a great honor.

Red Bull BC One-Neguin vs Roxrite-How could I not include a video from Red Bull this week? In one of the closest battles of the night, eventual champion Roxrite knocked out 2010 champion Neguin in the semifinals. Roxrite's clean, controlled style and incredible freezes really contrast with Neguin's explosiveness and aerial prowess.

NAOTV Episode 3: "Like Mike"

Who's bad? Apparently Bboy Cloud is. In this episode of NAOTV, we're highlighting Cloud's latest film "Like Mike". His tribute to Michael Jackson has some comical results and offers a message for all dancers to hear. Check it out for yourself:

Now don't leave just yet! This was another great week in dance and there are many more videos to watch below (or you can click on this playlist here.)

---Other Dope Videos from This Week---

Rhythmic Damage VI-Beast Coast vs Mighty Zulu Kings-While Battle of the Year was getting a lot of attention last weekend, there were still other jams going on around the world, like Rhythmic Damage VI in Philadelphia. The most intense battle of the night had to be this one, which was filmed by our very own Ninjaboi. After a tiebreak, Mighty Zulu Kings takes a close victory.

BOTY 1 on 1-El Nino vs Vicious Vic-It's Drake vs Bruno Mars! (Again!) In their first meeting, El Nino beat Vicious Victor in the finals of the US Red Bull BC One qualifier to win a spot at the Red Bull BC One competition in Moscow this weekend. Here in the BOTY 1 on 1 semifinals, Victor was out for blood as he sought revenge. He successfully evened up the score in what might become one of bboying's next big rivalries.

Ian Eastwood-"Wanna Be Good"-Ian Eastwood taught this piece at the Pride Workshops this past weekend. He performs the choreo so effortlessly, making it look easy. This is probably one of the best pieces I've seen from him lately. This is also another video filmed by a member of the BBDC community, this time by reader BSG.

Kujo-"Dance to Your Own Music"-This inspirational video was very beautifully shot by StrifeTV. Kujo (Ill-Abilities) stars in this video showcasing his bboy skills. He was born completely deaf in his right ear and has lost most of the hearing in his left ear. And yet he still figures out a way to dance without being able to hear the music. He is amazing and a true inspiration to dancers everywhere.

NAOTV Episode 2: Return of the Time Machine

Konnichiwa! You probably remember the first time you saw these guys on KoopaTV. After falling from the top spot in the last round of Dance@Hero, Time Machine definitely came back with a vengeance in the latest installment of the Japanese dance competition. Their signature robotic style definitely deserves the title of Dance Clip of the Week. Check it out for yourself:

Of course, that wasn't the only dope video from the past week. Check out the links below (or this playlist) and tell me what you think. What was your favorite video from this week?

---Other Dope Videos from This Week---

Anthony Lee-"Hold On"-So many different crews are represented in this video. Anthony Lee really captures the feel of this song beautifully in his choreography. Bonus points to anyone who can name all the ABDC alumni in this video.

Alan Truong-"Bananas"-This guy is bananas! (Sorry, couldn't resist) But seriously, Alan Truong is one of the best choreographers from Houston and he reps his city well.

Can Nguyen-"8-Bit Bounce"-What makes this piece special is the fact that Can created the music himself and then choreographed to it. I always appreciate pieces like this where all of the art comes from the choreographer.

Tony Czar n BIGZ-Back in the Studio Together Again!!!-Part of what made the Urban Empire Kidz so popular from the ABDC 6 auditions was their high energy choreography. Tony Czar's piece here shows just that as he performs it here with Lil BIGZ.

NAOTV Episode 1: Loads of Locking

What's poppin' BBDC readers? Actually, a better question would be what's lockin' BBDC readers? The first ever installment of NAOTV is bringing you guys some of the best lockers in the world this week. This was a great week for dance videos in general, but it was especially true for locking videos. And I couldn't just pick one video either. So first, let's head on over to Chinatown in NYC to check out our first pair of lockers: Hurrikane and Firelock.

The reigning Juste Debout locking champions showed off their versatility in dance styles as well as their world class locking abilities. And as always, the Yak Films production quality is top notch. Our next pair of videos feature Hilty and Bosch at Urban Dance Camp. Definitely check these out:

These guys became two of the most popular lockers in the world after their showcase at Red Bull BC One 2005. Their UDC videos definitely show us why.
