MTV Dance Crew - dance to Bollywood's Singh is Kinng

Back by popular demand: MTV India Dance Crew videos. One reason we held off on posting these: we hadn't been able to find Day One of their Bollywood lesson. But, it's briefly reviewed in this lesson in the first segment, so watch carefully as they teach a dance from Bollywood movie Singh is Kinng (pictured above).
  • Part I has a recap and demonstration of the Day One steps
  • Part II includes moves like the bedsheet spread and football flick
  • Part III briefly profiles choreographer Farah Khan (whose work is familiar even to Americans who have seen Shakira's Hips Don't Lie video) and demonstrates an Around the World Move
  • Part IV shows a little of the Singh is Kinng video and teaches the Washing step
  • Part V has a tricky football step and breaks down Shahid Kapur's cool move from Aye Papi
We'll post the last part of MTV India's Dance Crew - Bollywood lessons in a day or two. Promise.

SoReal Cru TV -- some new videos with Brian Puspos, Andrew Baterina and Phillip Chbeeb

Reader Favorite for ABDC Season 3: Ringmasters' Circus

Ringmasters did not make our top 10 favorite performances for America's Best Dance Crew Season 3. However, the crew gained in popularity each week as people saw that they were not a one-trick pony. Our readers voted Circus as their favorite Ringmasters Performance. It aired Week 3 during the Britney Spears Challenge. Click here to watch the entire performance on MTV.

Here's a legal clip from Fanscape Videos. Note: Viacom and Youtube is really cracking down on pirated videos (or videos that their automated bot thinks are pirated).

Mailbox: Layla Kayleigh's dogs, Mario Lopez & Season 4, JabbaWockeeZ

--In the latest issue of K9 News, America's Best Dance Crew hostess Layla Kayleigh talks about her dogs Munkey and Max. And, we are curious about that Dangerous Dogs story too. The story is not online, but you can buy a copy by clicking here.

--Vivo por Tivo spoke with Mario Lopez in an article called "Don't call me the Mexican Ryan Seacrest. When asked if he plans to host the next season of America's Best Dance Crew, he responded: "Why?
Am I being fired?...I've done it for three seasons and will keep doing it...those kids keep me young and hip."

--In a review of the New Kids on the Block show, Syracuse.com describes JabbaWockeeZ as "a techno-pop version of the Blue Man Group."

Reader Favorite - Dynamic Edition's Achy Breaky Heart

Though Dynamic Edition did not make it into our top 10 Reader favorite poll for America's Best Dance Crew Season 3 with a solo performance (they did make the list with the group performance with Quest and Strikers), many readers loved their unique take on the ABDC challenges, particularly in the Week 1 Sudden Death Challenge (where they clogged to My Humps) and the Week 4 Whack Track Challenge (where they took on Achy Breaky Heart). Unfortunately, to watch either one legally, you have to watch the whole performance on MTV. So, for Achy Breaky Heart, click here and go to 22:54.

Super Cr3w in New York - Photo and Part I of interview

Four members of Super Cr3w -- Do-Knock, Ben, Ronnie Boy, and RJ -- made a rare appearance in New York. On March 27, Jon Jon got to meet the America's Best Dance Crew Season 2 winners at the Prime Club, and sent the above photo.

The next day, we were able to interview them between their rehearsal and their appearance at the Blender Theater. The total interview is about 20 minutes long, so we've broken it into five videos and will run one for the next five days.(Apologies for the sound -- the heating system was very loud in the room). In Part I, they talk about what they've been up to since the end of Season 2.

Come back tomorrow for Part II, where they talk about their recent work and discuss how they've used the $100,000 prize money.

Glenda (Fanny Pak) and Della (ASIID) = Rebel Yell

Here's a fun video taken after a Glenda Morales (Fanny Pak) class at Ohlone College in Freemont College, where she works it with Della Hamby (ASIID). It's great seeing the America's Best Dance Crew Season 2 alums working together on and off stage like this.

Reader Favorite for ABDC Season 3: Strikers' Move if You Wanna

Although no Strikers All-Stars solo performance made the top 10 in our reader poll on Favorite Performances for America's Best Dance Crew Season 3 (their performance with Quest and Dynamic Edition placed at #), their moves were favorites for many of our readers. In particular, Move if You Wanna (by Mims) tied for #11. Strikers danced to this during Week 2, the Fit Test Challenge, where they had to incorporate monkey rolls into their routine. To watch the entire performance, click on this video of the entire episode and to go 13:35.

Here's a legal clip from Fanscape Videos; all other Youtube versions are bootleg and liable to be banned by Viacom any time now.

Exclusive report: Quest Celebration Party

Our field reporters Brooke and Rebecca attended the Quest Celebration party on March 21 in Hollywood. Here's their report:

The Scene: As we arrive at the club the scene is mob-like. On one side of the door, the VIP line is wrapped around the corner of friends, family and other very important people . On the other side of the door another long line of eager fans, supporters and followers of our Quest Crew almost impatiently waiting for club security to let them in. Quest has already made their very public entrance through the front door by the time we arrived, so we were excited to get in and meet them. We decide to try to skip the lines on either side of the entrance and find our contacts on the inside to come out and get us. We were able bypass everyone and walk into the club, taking our first look around we see big screen TV's playing America's Best Dance Crew Season 3 winners -- Quest!. As we walked into the main area of the club, we began immediately scanning the crowd to see where they are sitting.... Duh they're dancers, they aren't going to be sitting down at a club! So we started looking for Quest Crew, well they were much harder to find then originally suspected. People were in crew type formations in different areas doing there own dances, routines and compilations. You could see some watching the tv's and trying to do Quest's moves. It was amazing! Hip hop was definitely the fashion trend of the evening, tennis shoes, hats, bold colors, sunglasses, chunky stripes, hoods and overall a very funky fashion forward feeling... A very unusual scene for a typical Saturday night in any LA/Hollywood club.

We finally spotted a few of the Quest crew... I was able to get a photo with Hok, a very friendly and appreciative guy. It was hard to have much of a conversation with all the loud music,
but I did congratulate him and the team. Looking at the photo's you will spot a few of the other crew members but I was unable to grab them for a photo. It was a very interesting experience and I'm so pleased I was able to be a part of it.
Click here to see more party photos, including a quiet moment with Ringmasters.
Thanks for the great report, Brooke and Rebecca -- I wish I could have been there too!

JabbaWockeeZ interview - Creative process, relating to the music

QuadCity Times in Iowa talked to JabbaWockeeZ when they were in town for the New Kids on the Block concert. A few quotes of note:
  • In their full interview, JabbaWockeeZ talks about how America's Best Dance Crew gave them their big break. And Founding Member Joe Larot tells them ""We cater to the music. We develop a relationship with the music..we kind of have this code that we try to do where, if you were a deaf person and you couldn't really hear music, how could I show you music through my movements?"
  • A separate blogpost based on the interview describes the JabbaWockeeZ creative process: "We’re a bunch of goofy guys and we just like to vibe off each other.”

A Boxcuttuhz Dance-off -- of sorts

Boxcuttuhz Lando Wilkins (America's Best Dance Crew Season 3) posts a dance-off video: "At the Boxcuttuhz performance on March 20th, 2009 @ Shark's Club, an older fan from the Super Galactic Beat Manipulator days asked how my style started and how i came to where i am now. Well i had the feeling always but one major influence that helped me realize my own weakness in music was Kevin Brewer of the Jabbawockeez (look him up, simplicity at its finest). So for fun i battled myself in the mirror from the older style to the now incorporated style. this is for all to enjoy. Daywalker (SGBM) vs. Bang Jenkins (Boxcuttuhz)...who wins???" I vote for Bang -- and you should go to Landizeesgbm (Lando's Youtube Channel) and vote! And thanks to FannyBoxFan for the tip!

#1 Favorite for America's Best Dance Crew Season 3: OrQUESTra

Today: #1 in our survey of the our readers' 10 favorite America's Best Dance Crew performances for Season 3. We're starting with the most popular and are posting them throughout the next few weeks.

Reminder: respondents were allowed to pick more than one performance as their favorites. 69 % of our survey respondents identified Quest Crew's OrQUESTra as one of their favorite performances. It aired Week 7, when Quest competed against Beat Freaks and Fly Khicks. Watch the complete performance here on MTV (sorry for the ad they make you watch).

Unfortunately, there are no legal clips for this one from Fanscape to embed here. If you search on Youtube, I'm sure you can find lots of pirated ones, but they are being removed very quickly by Viacom for copyright violations.

Here's Arnelproduction's video of the Quest performance:

Fanny Pak Diversification #2 - What's up with their music album?

We ran into Fanny Pak backstage after the America's Best Dance Crew Season 3 Finale. They told us a little more information about the album they are recording:
  • It will incorporate a variety of music styles, but they will all be "music you can dance to" (or at least music that Fanny Pak can dance to!
  • Tabu (from Black Eyed Peas) and Lil Mama will be among the guest artists
  • It is scheduled to be released in Summer 2009

Fanny Pak diversification #1- What's up with the shoes?

JC Chasez on America's Best Dance Crew Seasons 3 & 4, and Kerosene Cowboys

At the finale, I almost got a JC Chasez interview on tape, but I couldn't get my film crew free at the same time that he was available. We did talk while I was trying to set it up. Chasez acted the same off-camera as he acted on-camera as an America's Best Dance Crew judge. He's somewhat removed and sardonic, like he doesn't buy into his role as a celebrity. Discussion highlights:
  • I've met him twice (finales for America's Best Dance Crew 2 & 3). Both times he called me honey. I'm not sure if that's a compliment or an insult
  • He said that he enjoyed Season 3 and that both Beat Freaks and Quest turned in 'memorable' performances
  • When asked if he would be a judge in Season 4, he said (VERY jokingly) "I go where they tell me". I assume that means he will stay involved.
  • He did drop his wry persona when I asked him about his new movie "Kerosene Cowboys". He described the filming as a challenge and a wonderful experience, and the film as something that will be 'original'

America's Best Dance Crew alums in Britney Spears Video "If U Seek Amy"

Jia Huang (Kaba Modern from America's Best Dance Crew Season 1) and Laura Edwards (Fysh N Chicks, America's Best Dance Crew Season 1) can be seen in Britney Spear's latest video If U Seek Amy (as well as in the photo above from this weekend's bowling party!). Watch it here.

They can also be seen as backup dancers for Britney's Circus tour.If you take Circus concert videos that feature these ABDC favorites, please email me the links (bloggingbestdancecrew@gmail.com) and I'll try to post them.
Thanks for the tip, Michael!

America's Best Dance Crew finale footage: Beat Freaks, Fly Khicks, Layla Kayleigh

5DTV highlights the ladies in their coverage of the America's Best Dance Crew Season 3 finale, interviewing Beat Freaks, Fly Khicks, and Layla Kayleigh. Highlight (for me): watching their interviewer show Fly Khicks his split (definitely better than the one done by Albert at Talk of Fame!)

What's America's Best Dance Crew Quest up to NOW?

I contacted Quest to find out more about the published publicity that they would be performing in NY (which turned out to be false). They did share this news:
  • The America's Best Dance Crew winners are currently working on a movie, but aren't allowed to give details yet
  • On April 4, they will appear at a meet and greet at World of Dance at the Pomona Fairplex
  • They're also preparing a celebration party in the next few weeks. If I were them, I would have already been celebrating non-stop!

A little more finale - Quest interview highlight video

All season long, Pacific Rim has been covering the serious and funny side of the America's Best Dance Crew crews. They just assembled a highlights video of their Quest interviews, answering questions about nationality, taste in girls, and other burning questions.

Lil Mama - I'd work with Chris Brown Again

Lil Mama spoke to MTV News about the allegations about Chris Brown's assault on Rihanna. In it, she takes a very cautious and measured approach, not wanting to pass judgment before all the details are revealed. The America's Best Dance Crew judge also says that she would definitely work with him again. "I would definitely record a song or work with Chris Brown at this very moment, I would. That's me."

Her message for Chris Brown and Rihanna: "I wish them both the best of luck. I wish them both all of the success in the world, which they deserve...As far as the way I feel about it, it's very confusing."

Super Cr3w's Ronnieboy stars in new Red Bull Ad

Ronnie Abaldonado (member of Super Cr3w, America's Best Dance Crew of Season 2) won Red Bull BC One in 2007. He's now the star of Red Bull's new ad.
