"Mobbed" is a Fox series that is co-directed and choreographed by Napoleon and Tabitha D'umo. It features very emotional plots of people trying to dramatize major life events (marriage proposals, pregnancy announcements, reveal of birth parentage) via flash mobs, as well as exposition on how to use flash mobs to make the occasion even more fraught with emotion and drama. Many of you will want to skip past the tears and staged drama (not to mention the ads) to get straight to the dancing. You're in luck, we watch it all for you!
The latest episode involved an 'accomplice' named Ion trying to make up to 'marks' (also his daughter and wife) for abandoning them with a flash mob apology. Really. The professional dancers include alums of America's Best Dance Crew: most members of Fanny Pak, plus members of Blueprint Cru, Femme 5, and Artistry in Motion. There are also alums from So You Think You Can Dance including Neil Haskell, Jason Glover and Lauren Gotlieb. So, if you want the full episode, click here. Here are the two full dance sequences.

Who will compete on America's Best Dance Crew Season 5? Early in January, we will run a contest to let you 'cast' which of the crews you think should make it to ABDC5 Top 9. To help you choose and give these crews some exposure, we'll spotlight each of them and show any recent performance videos we can find. We know of 32 crews that auditioned in Los Angeles on December 5, 2009, so we've covered them (in alphabetical order) over 4 days. If you have further information, links or videos to share for auditioning crews, please leave a comment or email us at BloggingBestDanceCrew@gmail.com
The Asylum, from Los Angeles, was formed in 2008. Their style (according to their MySpace profile: "house, jazz funk, isolations, hip-hop, theatrical, old school, sass, fusion, wacking, tutting, breaking, popping and maybe some ballroom if there ever comes a point." The larger group includes members of ASIID, Fr3sh, Femme 5, Fanny Pak, Funkanometry SF, Mix'd Elements, Expressive Doubt, and Automatic Response. Automatic Responseand Fanny Pak, and here's an Asylum performance at San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts that features members of ASIID and Fanny Pak. Several good videos of the larger group are available at AsylumDanceTV. Update: here's a performance of Asylum's ABDC5 audition routine:
The Detail from Portland, Oregon have performed together since 2000. Styles supplementing hip hop include African, Tap, contemporary/Modern, jazz and Ballet. Members have performed in music videos with Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Black Eyed Peas, and Janet Jackson. Crew members have also opened for live shows for Snoop Dogg, Ciara, Ashanti, and Fabolous. Click here to watch their audition for America's Best Dance Crew Season 5.
The Hype, from Hawaii, also auditioned for ABDC Season 3 and Season 4. Here's their interview with Pacific Rim at the ABDC 5 auditions. Here's their latest video (thanks TheEmp!)
BUT WAIT --THERE'S MORE!! CLICK HERE to read and watch performance videos for The Waackers, Tripl3 Threat, VIP San Jose, Xposed Dance, and Ztrain.
We are Heroes will always be heroes to us. They combined the best features of the earlier America's Best Dance Crew girl groups -- the hard hitting hip hop moves of Beat Freaks and Fysh N Chicks, the sexy athleticism of Fly Khicks, and the feminine style of Femme 5 and Sass x7. They worked through personal issues, injuries, and tough challenges to become the first female winners of America's Best Dance Crew. I can't wait to watch them again (and again!) in live shows, videos, and whatever else they choose to do!
This post is only for positive comments about We Are Heroes. If you have something negative to say about the crew or other aspects of ABDC, please post them at the Party Room/Critics Corner.
Reader Po Po is on a mission to locate videos featuring some of the less-seen America's Best Dance Crew groups. Here's Femme 5's Alison Forslund (wearing black and yellow) appearing with other dancers in a Womanize video. Thanks Po Po!
It sounds like the crews improved from the Martial Arts Challenge. Here are excerpts from the first reports:
TimetoFlytotheCheese: I am pleased to say that this week's episode definitely saved the season for me. Last week I went off on how I thought it was a horrible season, but tonight definitely changed my mind. Every crew delivered and the Bollywood challenge was much more interesting than people anticipated. I was shocked about the bottom two however, but mostly on one side. This was the most energetic audience I've ever been a part of, and but there weren't many ABDC alumni except some girls from Fysh N Chicks, Femme 5, and Artistry In Motion. Hopefully next week will be even better, as they bring back the Dance Craze Challenge from Season 1."
Mee: "It was really interesting to see how they do it. Kind of annoying with the constant clapping, but eh. That was my first taping and I'm going again next week. Anyway, I have a feeling a lot of people will be happy by who goes home this week. Or at least I was...Leyomi is such a diva!...I don't know what else to say except that I now know who I'll for sure be rooting for - Rhythm City"
